LED headlights measured for ham radio interference

Hello folks,

My aftermarket HIDs from hidprojector.com failed about 4 days ago. The ballasts (made by morimoto) failed and melted the wiring. The inline fuse blew and saved things. They worked for me for ~4 years, which isn't a good length of time for headlights to last. :(

That being said, I got new headlights. Before my purchase, I found that Offroad Warehouse in San Diego had both JW speaker and Vision X LED headlights in a display. I took out my ham handheld and took a few measurements to see which one puts out less noise.

Short version: JW Speaker put out much less noise then Vision X. Given the amount of noise being put out on the 2 meter band, I wouldn't recommend this particular Vision X product for anyone considering both LED headlights and a 2m/70cm radio.

I got the JW speaker version :)

Have Qtec Stealth LED headlights and no issue with 2m/70cm with a Yaesu FT-8800. Do get noise on 70cm from overhead high voltage power lines though.
