Looking to install a 7 pin trailer harness on my 02 TJ

Anyone ever install one, and was it difficult?

I actually looked into this not to long ago while I was researching on installing electric brakes onto my trailer that I take camping with me in the Jeep. Brakes would make it so much safer on those mountain roads.

Installing one shouldn't be hard at all. You can tap into the reverse light in the same place the 4 pin harness connects(behind the passenger tail light). Run a 10 or 8 gauge wire from the battery along the frame rail. I have read that the best brake controller would be the one that doesn't use inertia or angles and applies trailer brakes at the same rate of your Jeeps brakes. You don't want your trailer to be applying less brake when your crawling up a steep incline. I can't remember all the scenarios but look them up. Also these kind of brake controllers cost less because they are less sophisticated.

What are you trying to tow? Note that the TJ's can only tow 2k.

I would like to bring this thread back to life. Im looking for a wiring harness to tow the Mopar Camper Trailer. My friend and I just got one and he doesn't have a hitch on his 2012 JKU. (haha)

It weighs slightly less than 1,000 pounds so im at only 1/2 of the max towing for my 4.0 2002 wrangler with 5 speed.

I need the 7 pin because the trailer has a build in power inverter and I would like to be able to charge my phone or run a fan on hot days.

Does anyone have links of wiring harness that would work? Should I get the 4pin harness and then add the 7pin to it, or should I get a 7pin from the start. If anyone has links that would really help! Thanks!

No problem. You might want to find a local trailer place to get every thing installed by the weekend. Auto zone might have the 4 pin adapter, and might even have a 4 to 7 pin. Also try a tractor supply if you have one near.
