Looking to relocate yj radio

My windshield frame leaks, and tired of replacing head units, and don't have extra funds right now to buy new frame or anything fancy. I am thinking of relocating the radio into the compartment above the glove compartment, anyone seen this done? Or know what I could fill the extra space with? A long ways away from the driver, but with a remote it would be okay with me for now. I do not have the money to spend on a tuffy box either at the moment. I could also look into fabbing up a console out of wood if anyone has ever done or seen that done. Or any other ideas are welcomed.

Sorry about the leak. I have seen the Tuffy consoles but they're like around $300. I bought a smittybilt one for $99 (it's way cheaper) and even tho I've read bad reviews about it... Im more than happy with mine. I did get the stereo installed in the console so it's locked when not in use.

If that's not an option, I've seen people on here who have used old camo boxes and made center consoles out of it. I'm not very crafty nor do I have the tools + I'm picky about my car and I like a clean look (not saying their end result wasn't clean, but just not my style/liking).
I don't really know where else u could relocate your stereo .... How about under drivers seat with some brackets? I don't know.....
Hope someone can give u better advice.

My Jeep is more or less a rugged looking machine as a goal, so clean isn't a necessity, that's what my weekend warrior is for. Never really thought about under driver's seat, only concern would be it is a long haul to extend wires to.

Only concern is how to run the wiring. I guess just get some plastic tubing to put it in and run it under the door sill with the hose for my train horns.

hahaha i hadnt even thought that but i guess it does kinda look like a display..haha well no the previous owner had to relocate his radio to accomodate the custom switch panel he had made...hence that creation...which is great if your camping or etc...but im about to modify it even more to put in a new different marine radio and wire up a "remote head unit" on the top of the dash so i dont have to turn around to do stuff to radio....he also took the speakers from the speaker bar which he gave me...so im gonna but new speakers in it and have both the extra speakers and remote easily to disconnect to keep it portable

I would love something like that, how is it all wired and everything? I would like the portability because we take the Jeep when we go fishing quite often. How is the wiring done? I like the idea of a all inclusive unit. I would maybe change the radio to be on the top so It could fit between the 2 seats and add a couple more speakers. I'd like specs if possible.

i can get you specs on the size and dimensions the previous owner built it...but it was of those "why didnt i think of that! moments" the only wire that comes out of it is the 12v plug and 15 ft of wire(you can see pluggin into the extra 12v set up he had installed)

im going to do some modifications to it...because he didnt give it a back up battery or make it able to come on with the acc feature...so it keeps wiping the presets everytime i turn it off and on...im also gonna probly get This Head Unit and This "Remote" to mount on top of my dash so i dont have to look back to control the radio...im also gonna wire into the accessory switch(the 2nd switch from the left...the 1st from left is my ignition ) so itll turn on and off with the ignition...and lastly...im going to put speakers back into the speaker bar he took town/used the speakers from....and wire it to be able to be unplugged as well as the remote to retain its portability

What is the orange thing sticking out?

I'd like to take it one step farther and put speaker terminals on the box so while it is in the jeep I can plug additional speakers into it, as well as an antenna on it or something would be nice too as I go to the drive in movie theater often.

I would like 4 speakers inside the jeep, I like this idea because I can also take the radio out at night. Building should commence soon on one of these. Going to do 17" long, 12" tall 8" wide.
