Maxon 27-LP CB

Anyone know anything about these? I'm looking for something portable and easily stored when not in use. I can get a pair of these for $40, that way who ever I wheel with will have something if they don't already. I don't want to spend a lot, I could get a nice handheld for a hundred bucks but the truth is I'm not gonna use it that often right now and thought these might be a good intro to the CB world and good for an emergency. With an external antenna they could be quite useful.

Good for what you planned. Handy in a pinch. Range is not great, but, serves a purpose. The extenal antenna will help, the cigarette power adapter will be a must.

So, how did they work out for you?

Both worked however one power cord had numerous invisible breaks so one was unusable because I didn't bring batteries. The range was maybe half mile if I stood outside which wasn't very practical since I mostly needed it while driving. I could hear everyone else but only the closer vehicles could hear me. I did like them they are relatively small and light weight and for now I'm going to get a "real" antenna and use them that way till I find a deal on a regular CB that I can't pass up. My group of four met up with another group of 5 or 6, never really counted, and they all had CBs so I was able to listen in and saw what a huge advantage it is to have one on group rides. All in all I'm glad I have them and enjoyed playing around with them, I just need to work out a few kinks like getting a better antenna.
