Memphis Subs and Amp question

Has anyone here had any experience with these subs? They look inexpensive but have good specs. I am building a box to fit one 10" sub and am going to mount the amp under the seat. Also, I know the amp is the most important part so I want to hook up all my speakers (dash and soundbar + sub) to the amp. Any suggestions on the amp would be appreciated.

Memphis subs are great, so long as its not their bottom line sub. as for powering the sub and speakers, i would say to get an amp just for the sub and an amp for just the speakers.

what speakers are you running as of right now?

I have a baby belle 5-way amp and love it. Small footprint. Over engineered. Puts out more than it is rated for.

Jma20a,

I run JL 6.5 in the sound bar and JL 5.25 in the dash. I have a Kenwood head unit that I bought about a year ago. Right now the soundbar and dash speakers are running off the haed unit and I have an old school bazooka tube in the back I have had for about 12 years. It all works fine but the tube is going bad now (power supply) and the other speakers are pulling too much from the head unit thus not living up to their full potential. The Memphis sub I am looking at is the Power Edge series 15-PR10D4.

that sub should do some thumping. im a big fan of audiobahn subs. there mid and high level subs put out some good bass. the most important part of a system is the amp. if you are looking to power both sub and speakers go with separate amps. a mono for the sub and a 4 channel for the speakers. it makes it a bit easier to do all the tuning. and don't skimp out on the amp, you get what you pay for. you could have a very nice top of the line sub and with a crap amp and a sony explode would sound the same.

What size amp for each? I am a newb when it comes to this stuff. The only thing I know how to do well is the wiring and building the boxes. By the way, Do you or anyone else here know how many cubic feet the box should be for the Memphis Power Reference 10' sub? Also, what is your take on ported vs. sealed downfiring boxes?

the power of the amp should match up to the speakers you are powering. so lets say your 4 speakers are all 100 watt rms you would need a 4 channel amp with around 450 watts rms.

as for the size of the box memphis should list it under their specs.

I am running 2 12" memphis in a vented box with a 1000 watt power crunch amp running in parallel. They sound amazing.

You are going to want a down fired box in the jeep if it has a soft top. If it doesnt a ported or vented box firing backwards will give you the best sound. The sound has to bounce of of something in order to sound the best.

my sub is in a sealed box in my soft top and have no issues with sound. i have no back seat and have it facing the center console.

I'm not saying you won't get sound. Let's face it you have a giant speaker blasting at you. In an spl competition the way to get more decibls is to face the speakers towards something the bounce the sound waves towards the front where the mike is located, also the driver.
