Midland Handheld

Hey everyone. I just bought a brand new Midland 75-822 handheld on Ebay for cheap. Can anyone who has one of these please tell me how they like it? I was big into CBs back when i was 16 or 17 years old. That was back in the mid 70s. I always wanted to get something to have in a CB again, but not like i had before. This handheld has a vehicle adaptor that can be hooked up to an antenna mounted on the jeep. For right now i am not going to do that. I want to see how well i like this radio and go from there. I did buy an additional antenna that telescopes out to 27 inches instead of using the rubber ducky antenna. I heard this helps alot. For now i am also going to be using this in the house to get used to it, so im just going to use rechargable batteries. Does anyone know how well rechargables work? I have never used them before.

Rechargable batteries work fine, except after a while they need charged more and more often. I think that's pretty normal. Overall, I think they're a pretty good deal.

Hey, keep us informed as to how well the handheld and the antenna you're using is working. OK?

Well i have come to the conclusion that CB radios are worthless unless you do alot of trails with others. CBs used to be a very popular item at one time. I have had it turned on for 4 solid days now and i haven't been able to hear anyone talking at all. The weather NOAA channels works great though. I have the Extennded antenna to double the range on this walkie talkie and still nothing. I have tried to get someone to answer me to see if anyone is out there but NO answer. I ended up talking to a relative because he is an over the road truck driver, and he said that hardly anyone uses them any more. It's almost imposible to get anyone to talk to you on the road he said. Being that their are very few trails in North Dakota, and I mainly bought my jeep for peace of mine to get from point A to point B in the winter months, i will not spend any more money on it for mounting one in my jeep. I thought this was going to be something i would enjoy again, Especially reading all the posts from other jeepers. Evidently they do alot of trail riding that it benifits there needs. But i do appreciate everyones comments on getting one.
thanks

I have a Cobra25 peaked and tuned with 5' antenna on the rear tire mount.
I can hear truckers from over 15 miles away fairly well and anyone inside that range extremely well. There ALOT of chatter night and day on channel 19 (the truckers channel) but not alot on any other one.
The key is the antenna, and TUNING the antenna is critical. But that unit you have it probably ok for trails, talking to the guy 20 yards in front of you.

Finally heard someone on it tonight. I talked to a couple of truckers on the interstate. The interstate is about 3 miles from my house. Not bad for being set up as a walkie talkie for right now. I think i'll go ahead now and buy an antenna for the jeep so i can take it in there.
