It's sideways in the Bestop Insta-trunk. the speaker is facing the passenger side of the jeep. I can get a pic when it stops raining.

I'm really happy with it and it sounds great with the top down.

My jeep gets about as much bass as a jeep can make. Here's what I did.. I have infinitys speakers (no not the ones that come with jeeps now days. So I have the two on the sound bar and then the two 3x5s I have them hooked up to a 300 watt Orion amp defiantly puts out bass and a louder and better sound quality. I then had a custom box built to down fire a 10 inch roxsford fosgate 1000 watt sub that's hooked up to a 1000 watt kicker amp. I have the amp turned up about 40% . My friends always know when I'm close they say they can here my base when I'm about a 1/4 mile down the street.

Update, blew my old JL 8w3. Replaced last Saturday with a Polk MM 10". Really liking this new sub, supposedly gets even better when broken in. Very clean and deep bass now.

Not quite mine is facing the tailgate and I get plenty with the top off. Making face down makes the car vibrate when it hits making you feel it. That makes your mind think its louder then it is.

Sounds great even at 65 mph with the top down.

I'm seriously considering this one. So... In your opinion, 120 watts powers it quite nicely? And I could take the sub out to bedline the box and what not?

I ended up buying the MTX RT8PT Road Thunder. I also installed it inside an instatrunk in the back. It has plenty of power and can be heard while driving with the top off. It really fills in the bass nicely that was missing from my speaker bar and other speakers. I also added the front dash tweeters that you can get from Quadratec.

Quadratec Exclusive JW-TWEET - Super Tweeters (Pair) for 97-06 Jeep® Wrangler TJ & Unlimited - Quadratec

The system sounds great now. I recommend the MTX to anyone who wants to improve the sound in their jeep and get some good quality bass.

I have a 8 in the back facing the away from the front. And my 600 watt amp is next to it. There is a jeep trunk saver in the back. If i tilt my sub i.e. \ = like that. Could i fit a 10. 8 is biggest it can do standing up. And i saw something about a slim amp. What is the largest size they make that would fit behind the glove box? Then i could have 2 10's in the back!

Well, I installed a Bestop TrailMax rear seat and lost the InstaTrunk… I'm still trying to sort that out with Bestop. Sorry about no pic. I completely forgot about it. Maybe today, I hope.

Edit: never mind I see you bought one already. Sorry I never got that pic to you.

Yeah, i think it's powered nicely. It can very easily be removed, in fact, I plan on installing a high amp plug, so I can just unplug and remove without a chance of the wires shorting.

Does it leave any room for cargo space let's say a little bag, if you could post a pic that would be awesome. Soo 600 watt amp is all it really needs?

That's how mine is set up. It gives me room for some items to the right of the sub.

By the way, my InstaTrunk might be for sale. Used about a month, but because I swapped my rear seat, It doesn't fit anymore.

I have a big box that has a big pull oit drawer and a holder for a spare that goes in the space where the rear seat used to be.

I added in a 1000w amp, and 12" Q-logic slim sub.

It fires towards the front, right into my seat almost.

The amp is contained inside the box so there are no worries of rain, its concealed too so you cant see it unless you look behind my seat

Does it hit hard? I heard slim mounts do not hit as hard as a deep mount.

I have a ProBox in my JKU powered by a Punch P400-1. It hits hard, gets very loud, and the fit/finish is exceptional. It's made in the USA, and I believe it was $600 shipped.

I've got the skypod like jlstearn to compliment the two downfire 10's in the back....it hits like a champ. All about Power & Space. I also replaced the 6.5" mid woofer in the console....waste of time if your running any other subs (only my opinion).

I am also looking at adding an Alpine KTP-445 amp under the dash to add 4 ch at 45 RMS amps each to the stock dash spekers and the two over head spekers in the roll bar pod. The small bass speker in the console will still be stock. i am plannig to keep the stock radio. This may be all i need. sub is about 120.00 KTP-445 amp is about 125.00 and the sub amp is 125.00.
sounds like what I'm planning to do as well. Have you gotten the sub yet? I'm wondering if it will fit with the insta-trunk.

my take

I have a similar setup to jlstearn.

- 4 stock speakers replaced with infinity reference series
- skypod install in the header bar with 4" polk marine
- stock 6.5" mid bass replaced with kicker cvt
- 2 10" downfire JL Audios in a custom box with carpet color match

My personal experience with my sound is
1. the stock sub replacement isn't worth it if your going to put subs in the back, just disconnect it.
2. POWER! replace the stock headunit first, and this will probably give you the most gain of sound in your jeep
3. I had a 12" sub in a truck box before my two downfire 10s and the improvement was monumental.....when the top is on. As soon as you open a window or take the top off your bass will suffer dramatically. I ended up installing switches in the dash to my amps, to be able to shut the sub amp off completely when I take the top off.

These are just my opinions. Below are my picks

skypod:

stock sub replacement:

before color carpet to match my interior: (turn on its back)

^^ willybTJ, what are the dimensions on your box? What is the internal volume. I'm going to need about 1.5ft^3 after the port and speaker displacement..

Looks nice!

Not sure, I had it built by our local cartoys, and then brought in on the sides to fit my dropdown tailgate install later.

The original space was built as close to the sub specs, while keeping the top a the height of the tailgate. I'll measure it this weekend. I've got some pics from when they stripped the carpet off and readjust it and I'll post them up.

I just realized you've got an aftermarket console sub plus the 2 10's in the back. What are you doing as far as crossover points go?
