Question MP3 Amp Without Head Unit?

Just bought my 1989 Wrangler YJ...soft top and no door locks of course. The stereo head unit has already been "acquisitioned" by some miscreant whilst it was parked on the street. I really have no use for FM or AM radio as I listen exclusively with my iPhone and iPod. Is it possible to install an amplifier behind the dash (after repairing the empty hole!) with only an Aux input jack showing? That way I could plug in my iPod to the Aux jack, and listen through the amp and speakers. My idea would be to have a thief see no radio on the dash in the middle of the night....and pass my Jeep by. Also wondering if sound bars , once installed, are easily "borrowed" by thieves?
Thanks for any input (no pun intended!)

Yeah shouldn't be an issue, you'll just have to use a larger power wire. Soundbars depending on how they are fastened are more difficult to remove than a head unit.

Simply install an aftermarket amplifier running your speakers and run an AUX plug to the amp with an AUX-to-RCA adapter.

The only drawback is there's no interface to control your iPod but it'll work just fine.

Shouldn't be hard at all. Just find out what the power rating on your speakers are and get a 4 channel amp that will feed them accordingly. Might be difficult to mount the amp behind the dash, depending on size, but you can mount it under one of the front seats and extend your factory speaker wiring in a loom to the amp. Then just get a male 3.5mm stereo to male RCA's and run it from your iPhone to the amp. Make up some kind of block-off plate for where your factory radio was and you're all set!

As for the soundbar, unless someone really knows what they're looking for, I can't imagine you'll have an issue with that. Besides, I don't think that thing is coming out without the top being off.

Hope this helps!
