mp3 players, hardlines, and music

Anyone attempt to hardline their mp3 player in to the back of the factory stereo? I have an iPod mini that I use an RF to play it through the radio but I'd like to hardline it into the back of my stereo. I read somewhere that there's a place to plug into the back of the stereo. Is there anyone who's done this? If not, what other method have you used?

not all stereos have the input jack for an ipod. i was using a transmitter before for mine, but just got a new stereo with an input jack in the front. maybe with the winnings from the lottery ticket, you can buy a new stereo and the yj

I was looking to get a new stereo, but this one still works fine and I hate to just replace it because the RF thing irritates me some days. It works pretty well.

I think it was a $70 kit to plug in the back, but I can't find the link.

You can put it in through the antenna jack. There are adapters that you can get to do it easily.

Hey Tiny, I got an Alpine stereo (not the top of the line but a basic model) that came with the hardline cable to hook up my ipod for about 200 bucks on crutchfield. I sold my factory stereo on ebay so I ended not spending that much cash. I also get to control my ipod on the faceplate of the stereo. It sounds great.

That doesn't sound too expensive. Funny, I really hadn't noticed the sound quality difference until a buddy brought a CD for me to listen to and I could really tell. The RF has got to go now and it's all his fault.

amerijeep - that's still a hardline though isn't it? not just a transmitter?

Well, it's hooked directly into the receiver, so it's both, I guess.

Actually..I spent more than 200, maybe like 250 including taxes and shipping. The kit comes with all the adapters for the Wrangler and I installed everything myself. You could choose a more affordable stereo, but I tried other brands in other cars and I like Alpine the best for sound and ipod compatibility.
I keep my Ipod in my glove compartment. By the way, crutchfield has awesome customer service and support if needed. Here's what I got:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-IiXhTJz...p&I=500CDA9856 and the adapter cable is 29 bucks (click on the tab for accesories once you are on the stereo you like) Mine is here:

The rest of my set up includes pioneer speakers that I had replaced a couple of years ago (using the same factory wiring) and an amp and subwoofer for extra loudness (specially when playing beach volleyball or driving @ 70mph with the top down).
Hope this helps.
Cheers
