Mysterious CB add-on

I need help figuring out exactly what I have on my hands

I just bought an old school (pre-1980) Cobra 29, 23 channel CB. Attached to the top of the mounting bracket is some sort of electronic gizmo I can't quie figure out. its clearly designed to mount into an ashtray, another bracket, something. I has lips on the sides and a retaining clip at the front. its about 3" square of black metal. on it are six copper contacts which are connected to (from left to right) the coax sheathing, the center of the coax, a mysterious gray wire, a mysterious green wire, the clack ground wire, and the red hot wire. The coax on the back of the CB runs into a bundle of electric tape and the coax and the gray and green wires come out. the red and black from the back of the cb are connected directly, although the red is fused. My best guess is that it might be some sort of powered antenna gizmo, but i really have no clue... any help?

Even without the pic I know what it is. It's a quick release slide mount to allow quick removal of the CB without having to unscrew the coax and unplug the power connections. The contacts mate with another piece on the part you mount to the car. When you slide the 2 pieces together all the contacts mate up and you have power and antenna connections. I think the extra 2 connections would be for an external or PA speaker. Very common back in the day... I had several.

I did a quick Google search and came up empty. I then searched eBay for "cb radio slide mount" and there are a few vintage units out there. I doubt these have been made in years. The bad thing about these is the antenna connection. By splitting the coax you lose the shielding in that area. Also corrosion and dirt on the mount connections will cause problems eventually. If you're gonna use a mount like this I'd suggest keeping the integrity of the coax intact and just unscrewing the antenna when you remove the radio.

Flea market maybe. Look for old CB's and 8-Track players. Those slide mounts date from the 70's.

I used to use those and found that it was best to use them for the mount but not the electrical connections, we would bypass those on board contacts and make the electrical connections externally.
