Need some experience here :)

Alright so ive started my search for a cb and have read all the information i think i will need. What im planning on getting is the following from amazon.

Cobra 29 LX
Amazon.com: Cobra 29 LX 40-Channel CB Radio with Instant Access 10 NOAA Weather Stations and Selectable 4 Color Display: Car Electronics

Stud to attach to bracket for the tire carrier
Amazon.com: STUD W/SO-239 CONN: Car Electronics

Antenna Spring
Amazon.com: Firestik SS-3H Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Antenna Spring: Car Electronics

Firestick 4' Antenna w/ tunable tip
Amazon.com: Firestik Antenna 4' Black FireFly: Electronics

Tire carrier bracket(i might fab something up for this or do some more research on other products)
Amazon.com: Rugged Ridge 11503.89 CB Antenna Mount for Jeep Wrangler: Automotive

18' of Coaxial Cable(i think this specific cable has different ends on it? Ill have to dig deeper here too)
Amazon.com: 18' RG-58/U Coaxial Cable With Pl-259 Connectors: Car Electronics

If im missing anything please let me know and if you have suggestions on different products let me know

Now i know everyone says "don't put it between the tire carrier and spare tire. You wont be able to open the rear window on the hardtop with it there." Well cant you just put it on the left side of the tire carrier instead of the right so when you open the tailgate it will clear the window?

Lastly! Has anyone mounted this cb in between the visors like this?

Project-JK.com - Jeep JK Wrangler Resource » Affordable Jeep JK Wrangler CB Radio SolutionMidland Model-1001Z

Issues? Anything you would do differently?

Attached is a picture of what i plan on doing except on the left hand side of the carrier so i can clear the hardtop window when i open it.

Thanks guys you have saved me countless times! I look forward to discussing this!

All those things work together, and will create a radio station. The PL-259 connector pairs with a SO-239 stud (on your radio and a standard cb stud, like the K4A you selected).

The antenna wave doesn't really like being trapped between the metal/rubber of the tire and the metal/glass of the tailgate, but if ya can get good (<2) SWR go for it. It wants to be as tall as possible, not to be mistaken with as long as possible.

I have my large frame radio mounted on the A pillar corner, but same thought. I like it, but built a very sturdy custom bracket. 25$ or so.

What would I do different? Mount the antenna up front, but for cb on trails that's probably overkill. Cobra 29 is a good choice.

Do you mind showing me a pic of what the mount looks like? Im interested to see your setup.

And i just wanna make sure im understanding you correctly. That cox cord will work? I guess im a little stumped by the abbreviations.

Yes, that coax will work. The male stud with female threads is called a pl-259. It can't plug into another same thing, so there is a different plug for that. It has male threads and a hole in the middle, and is called a so-239. They are referenced as plug / socket by the hole & plug, not the threads. This is a pic of them:

My mount, not the best pic, and not very pretty, but could be. It has 3 band clamps holding the rail to the roll bar, then the visor bolts are holding the windshield piece along with a drilled/tapped hole, and the 2nd set of visor bolts hold the mic clip. The two rails are bolted together, then an aluminum strap runs between them to hold the radio, with nylon washers for swivel. All hardware is SS and locknuts. All available at your hardware store.

Attachment 178519

I wouldnt mount it there if you are over say 5'7" or so.

Thanks, and it was fun (not a "citizen band", though).

Good luck, let us know what you go with. I think most folks limit the overhead to midsized cbs; maybe others will opine about that.
