Need Some Wisdom

As you know, I got my license recently, as part of my job at the hospital. We have a Friday morning check-in @ 8:30am every week. (for the past 3 weeks, and ongoing...) I drag my but out of bed (2nd shift) and power up the radio, I can hear everything crystal clear, but nobody can hear me. I have tried it at home, twice, nothing. I actually went to work this morning and walked around the parking lot, trying, at every break, and no one picked me up. I was receiving so well, even better than the host! I know that my radio works, because I talk every now and then in the evening, on other nets. Where to start? I don't even know the questions to ask Corporate, about the radio they gave me. Can any one give me a hint?

What radio?
What system are you trying to hit? what distance?

If it's a walkie talkie type you're going to receive far better than you can transmit.

The radio is an IC-T90A. I have used it on repeaters much further away. The repeater used for the Med-Com check-ins is less than 20 mile away. I have used repeaters that were at least 30. Next week, I am going to try up on the roof, I can see the stinking building it is on from there! Yes, it is a hand held unit...

Did you put the proper PL Tone in for the repeater?

To be honest, I don't know. I was issued this radio, and it was pre-programmed. I don't know how to check. I assumed (I know, lazy) that it was programmed correctly. I guess I have to hit the books...dang! Oh, yeah, thanks, for pointing me in a direction! I didn't even think of the P L tone!

Are you bringing the repaeater up at all (i.e courtesy tones)? If you are it isn't a PL problem. How about power settings on the HT? You might have accidently hit a button that controls output power.

Every time I see this thread listed somewhere, before I even notice which forum it's in, all I can think is "Man, don't we all?!"
