Never owned a CB, need help picking a MINI CB

I need advise on picking up a CB radio for my TJ. The local Jeep club requires one to be installed. My objective is to have a small unit installed on the dash using the Rugged Ridge Side CB Mount.

What I have so far

Wilson FLEX4 Fiberglass 4 Foot Silver Load CB Antenna

TeraFlex Drivers Side CB Antenna Mount (will mount behind the drivers side brake light)

Rugged Ridge CB Radio Dash Mount

Really my questions is which mini CB unit is good. When I read reviews some don't paint a good picture on any of them. I'm looking to spend under $100 on the radio. I really want it to be as small as can be. I see all the major brands make one. (Cobra, Uniden, Midland....) I have no room under the dash or under the seat.

Any advise on the setup will also be helpful.

Thanks to all.

Bearcat PRO505, Uniden PRO510 (both made by Uniden, nothing fancy or extra, rather small, either under $50. They will do the job.

I will second this, either radio should do you a fine job on the trails.

x2 on the above. You won't use one enough to justify getting an expensive one. Just one that will reach a mile or so, so you can shoot the bs as well as being able to keep up with the rest of the wheelers on the ride.

My Uniden 520xl has worked well and is much smaller than a full size. It's the exact same thing as the PRO510 plus like 2 extra features. I think I got mine from amazon for $50

I agree. The Uniden PRO510XL or 520XL are good choices for a compact low cost radio. Frankly, all CB radios have the same output power (4 watts), the more expensive models have other add-on features.

I like the cobra 75 WX. I think it is about the smallest CB you can get. I have it mounted in my dash so all you see is the plug and all the controls are on the handset. although I do recomend an external speaker, which is zip tied to my roll bar behind my head.

Thanks you all for the advise. It was helpful and key in making my choice. I will post a pic once everything comes in and the project is done. I think the Bearcat PRO505 will fit my needs best.

One more Newbie question... How long of antenna wire do I need to go from the driver side dash to the rear drivers side brake light?

I'd like to order it today. The Jeep is not with me to measure.
