New guy here with a Nav System request

Hey guys, my family just bought a really nice 2010 2d JK. So far we are having a blast with it. It has a lift kit with 35's on it. Soft top with the factory stereo in it.
We would like to upgrade to a Nav system. After doing a lot of research and talking to our local Stereo guy, we are looking at the Kenwood 990HD.
We are concerned about how big that thing is.

I would like to know the pros and cons of this system and if any of you guys have this system installed in your jeep?? I would like to see pictures of this unit in a JK.

Other thing, is I don't have the steering wheel controls and after reading a lot of threads, that looks like the biggest pain in the rear.
I did notice that in some pictures that I have seen with other models of the Kenwood, you can get gages hooked up to the screen of your kenwood. How does that work?? Will that work with our JK?
Other thing, should I keep on spending the money and install a backup camera right away? And which one would you recommend?

There are a lot of mixed reviews on that unit, and the fact that it is discontinued probably means something. I have GPS on my HU, but I like my Google Maps on my Android phone much better. Waze on Android is much more fun too.

Kenwood Excelon DNN990HD Navigation receiver with Wi-Fi® at Crutchfield.com

The Pioneer AVH-4000NEX looks like a very clean radio. And,I like the security features of the removable face, and the App radio on it, so you can control your navigation on the Iphone or Android. Plus, it is not discontinued and $300 less.

Pioneer AVH-4000NEX DVD receiver at Crutchfield.com

There are two pages of navigation Double Din car stereo's on Crutchfield that aren't discontinued. Maybe you should look at them.

x2. The pioneer unit seems to be the most popular.. I had the Kenwood DNN990HD ( European equivalent model) in my Mitsubishi Pajero and didn't really like it..Nav frequently lost my location, Ipod would lose its connection with the unit, and the rear video out was grainy.

Maaan do I have a stake in what your doing. I'm about to do the same on my 2014 Rubicon but have no idea what parts I would need to go along with the Pioneer NEX. Could you please keep us posted so that I can ask you what exactly did you do and need to get it done..

used the following parts:

Metra 95-6511 double din dash kit, removed metal plate, cut upper dash bracket

Metra 40-EU30 antenna adapter

Metra AX-ADCH100 harness for aftermarket radio with nav, etc.

Metra ASWC-1 steering wheel control interface

Of course we removed the amp, and interfaced the Arc Audio 6ch. amp into the system, installed Rockford processor, replaced all speakers with HAT's and JL sw3 8" for the subwoofer.
