New Head Unit

I would like to change out the stock stereo to something better my question is how first of all do you get the panel off all the way up to the head unit? Secondly how hard is it to wire a new head unit knowing that Most I have seen here use a optional wiring harness?

This shows you how to remove the dash and replace the old unit.

As to the harness, try here:

Pac-Audio.com Product Search | iPod Integration for your car and More by Pac-Audio - Connecting you to the future

If you don't have or don't need steering wheel controls, the CHY4 harness will work just fine. If you do need to integrate SWC, then the RP4-CH11 provides both the wiring harness and the SWC integration. I just did the same on my 2013 and wiring it was a breeze. All you need is a screwdriver, a pair of pliers, a wire stripper, a willingess to follow instructions and a little bit of patience.

I haven't done it in an 08 so I honestly can't tell you how easy or otherwise it is, but I can tell you that it was really simple in my 13.

Do you have the connectivity group in your 13?
Did you reuse the stock usb port and stock mic?

No, and no. I already had a crappy aftermarket Bluetooth unit that the dealer had installed, so I removed that as my new HU has both Bluetooth and USB. I ran the USB cable from the new HU to the glove box which is a very simple process; the microphone I currently have located next to the light sensor in the centre of the dash just under the windshield, but I'm not happy with the quality there so when I have the dash out next week to run my new speakers in, I'm going to relocate it to the A pillar.
