New IC-7000 For 99 Wrangler

Hello to all Ham Radio Operators,
I have just sold my FT-8900r and have now got in my possession a brand new Icom IC-7000. I am wondering what HF Antenna are you using? I am looking at going with a Screwdriver antenna (Hi-q or Scorpion). If anyone uses these types of antennas where on your Jeep did you mount them and what type of mount did you use? My 99 Wrangler has a soft top, no hard top. On another note, do I need to upgrade my alternator and battery with is new radio and antenna configuration? Any help would be greatly appreciated as Google is not helping much on the Jeep side of things. Thanks.

Hi. AE5DW here. I just days ago bought my '00 TJ and will be mounting my 7000 in there. I've used the Little Tarheel antennas on several vehicles with great success. I have both the original and Little Tarheel 2. The main differences are in the coil. The 2 also covers 75 meters where the original stops at 40 but has half the power rating (200 watts vs 500). Since I don't run an amp this works for me. As far as a dua lband antenna, the Comet CA-2x4SR is a tough antenna that should take all the abuse you can dish out.

Stock battery and alternator are fine. Max draw on the Icom is listed at 22A. Just use sufficient gauge wire.
If you have not seem this one before, lot of good infor here; http://www.k0bg.com/

This picture of Icom AH-4, antenna mount W/quick disconnect. Spare tire mount extension, and CB mount from 4WD parts.
Radio under passenger seat, remote face plate on goose neck above rear view mirror, speaker , MFJ Clear tone, hung from factory sound bar. Will try and get pictures of remainder of installation. BTW gets out great! Use a standard 104 inch whip

I don't know if you saw these... here is my 7000 install completed a couple of weeks ago. Other than needing an external speaker it works fantastic. I've been using a Heil Traveler headset while driving.
