New Ram Mount for the Footman Loop

I will say this right off the bat, this mount rocks!

I have a Garmin Street Pilot III, which is a fairly heavy GPS. I have been looking for a satisfactory mount for a while and have found "da bomb!" It mounts to the little loop thingy on the top of the windshield frame between the sun visors. It is a very simple install which should take about 5 minutes, once you get the correct tools and sit down in the Jeep.

This picture shows the overall location of the GPS using the new mount. In my estimation this is an almost ideal location for a GPS. Viewing takes no more time than checking your rear view mirror.



The next two are closer views showing the mount.





If you have never used a Ram Mount, they are a very sturdy and simple mount. They are simply a rubber ball on a stud with a clamp around the ball.

This clamp or arm can be rotated to place the mount in many different locations. The arm comes in many different sizes and shapes to allow virtually an unlimited number of mounting possibilities.

An additional side benefit is vibration isolation. I ran one of these on my 1150 GS dual sport on my ride down the Continental Divide and it performed perfectly - no damage to the GPS from vibration or from wrecks. They work great.

wow thats real nice. is it adjustable for other types of gps units?

Yep, all you have to do is purchase the correct mount/adapter for your GPS,

As in, more than one? During the same trip?

I got run off the road in MT on a FS road......










And on it's side 6 times one afternoon similar to this one:



You can get hurt on those dang things! Jeeps are much safer.

The Ram Mount held up great through all that and more.

Crap, OK, I thought you meant you were getting in that many accidents on real roads! Now that could be dangerous, w/ all the lemmings in their pods...

It is one of the common misconceptions that you are safer offroad or in the forest. I call BS - I believe you have more chance of being hurt, maybe not killed but hurt, offroad than you do onroad. The other issue is you are farther away from help and it can take a long time to even contact help let alone have them find you and haul you out.

I am talking about riding a bike off course................
