New Stereo System Installment? what to do with sub?

So for the past two years i've put up with the stock stereo from my '97 TJ. Enough is enough. I bought an alpine cda-7875 with a Dub 550W 2 channel amp and a 12" sony x-plod sub.(granted sony's are skept but for the price I couldn't resist) I bought the latter 2 together for $50 I was planning on a 10" but i couldn't resist the deal. anyways, where the hell am I going to put this S-O-B? I was looking at previous posts.

http://just4effect.com/purchase.htm[/URL]
you can get single or dual 8", 10", or 12". looks like an "instatrunk" looking down on it.

I don't really want to take out the back seat and don't have $230 bones to dish out for a new set up. So I'm thinkin that I have a new project on my hands. this would be an attempt of making the just4effect box, throwing it in the trunk and then running the amp right underneath my back seat, anyone disagree?

I plan on just taking the same wood, glue and nails as the pro and then coating it with undercoating to complete it. Or should I just try to sell the sub and take what money I get for it and focus on a diff sub that would accomodate the jeep better?

Comments are greatly appreciated.

That's my question. this pic is from the guy's website who makes them. I find it interesting how he can make it. That's why I'm looking for suggestions. Maybe customizing the box? I heard that the best way to set up a sub in a wrangler is to downfire it. I'd barely be getting the sub within the trunk if this is the case, but its still possible.

From looking at past pics of the box from above, i believe that the box is angled parallel with the back seat of the jeep so it can fit in the trunk.

I believe its suppose to fit into the trunk space of the wrangler. Its kinda hard to put into perspective with the pic that I posted. just imagine the sub facing the floor. Product Purchase Page If you check out his page you can see how he's made diff size sub boxes to fit in the trunk. does this pic help out a little? you can see where its been made to accomdate the trunk door when it closes.

the sub is suppose to face the floor. i have a very similar set up in my 01. i ran the rca and remote wire in the flex conduit along the driver side for the rear lights the tie wrapped it back and looks just like factory. the power wire i ran along the passenger side in its own flex conduit up along the rail and tie wrapped it to my hard top nuts. looks 100% factory. mount your amp on the side of this box. they make a box similar that has 2 subs facing down and you mount your amp in the middle facing back. as long as your amp is small enough to fit between your hinges and the door latch. i built mine just like this one out of hdf which is overkill but sounds great for a jeep.

it fits perfect behind the back seat with it sitting up. they make a trunk seal that goes from the top of the tub across and around the roll bars which is ideal for this set up so nobody has any idea you have anything there. its not a normal trunk but its higher. cant recall the brand or exact name right now.

im not sure how a sub is going to sound with the way box is built. has some strange angles inside, that will cause your sub to distort more than if it were in a properly built box. seeing as you are working with a sony sub your are not going to like the final performance for the amount of money you have spent.

i was thinking the same, ive made up a design on paper of what i'd like to do. i was thinking about making the box in the center of the trunk. so i won't have to make any cuts inside the box, that should help out on the dirstortion problem. then mount the amp on the side of the box.

i say just make your own box. the money they charge on most of the pre-built ones is to high.
