Noob CB Questions

My question to all of you is what is the best cb/ antenna to get? I will mostly just be using it for trails and maybe a little highway... I want to mount my antenna on the passenger side tail light but do the mounts that I can buy work alright as far as the grounding issues and such? And i want to mount the cb above the rearview mirror... is this possible?? Also where can i run the wire if I do the mount there? Sorry for the questions just a complete noob at CBs

Most will say a firestick between 2'-4' long, and yes the mount will work if you file off the paint in the bolt holes.

Mounting the radio is possible with parts you can get at Home Depot for less than $10.

Cobra makes one that has the radio controls built into the handset. Perfect application for a jeep. This not my jeep but i have mine in the same spot:

As far as the mount. This is my experience:

Purchased behind the tailight mount from amazon. Used 3-4 foot firestick II. Cool look. Too much flex in the steel behind the light on a 2000 tj. The light itself would wobble. Switched to 4" firefly antenna (40% lighter) and it got slightly better. Tried 3' firefly same story. Installed tailight guards and had to remove mount all together. Drilled hole in rear spare tire mount bracket and antannae bolts in with the firestick mount. That tailight mount is meant for the real thin cb antennas. Available spring seems too big to install next to light, it will crack the plastic. Good luck.

I'm guessing you didn't drill the hole for the extra bolt? My teraflex mount had an extra hole towards the top that required me to drill into the tub to add another bolt. Without it the mount would move like you described. With the hole drilled and bolt installed its solid.
