Original TJ radio problems

We have an 03 TJ with what seems to be the original radio. The radio fades in and out like you are losing the station. Then again at times it will play well. We also have a little transmitter that works with a MP3 player and that usually plays well.

Don't want to buy a new radio if it could be the antenna or another problem.

Ideas please.

Ex - GF had a Grand Cherokee did the same thing. To check if it was radio or something else I swapped mine in from my '04 Wrangler. My radio worked fine. (in hers)

I know there are a lot of places to get a radio--but went with Quadratec--and the complete install kit. Took less than 15 min to install in her Jeep. Took longer to program and figure out the amp/equalizer. LOL

I liked hers so well that I ordered the same model for my wrangler even though mine was still working fine. Have had it about a year and very happy with it.

For the cost of repairing the stock model you can probably replace the head unit.

just my.02

Good Luck!
