Question on SSB CB Radio

Hello,

First off, I love Wranglerforum.com. You guys are great. I have learned a Lot from all of you.

I am looking into getting a radio or two for my 04 TJ-X for use on the trail. During my research, i found Cobra's 148 GTL AM/Single Sideband CB Radio.

Does anyone have any experience with this radio or with Any SSB/CB radio? I have found a few site that say the SSB/CB radio's are not very good, and that I would be better off getting two separate radios (one CB, and one SSB).

What do all of you think? For safety purpose, space constraints are not a concern. I would rather do a lot of work to get the radio's in and be able to communicate in case of emergencies than have crappy radio(s).

Thanks for your help.

You can get it and not use SSB. I dont know about the new ones but a 148 used to be one of the best Cbs on the market.

I've had 2 148's and they both have been way good and have had no problems with either one. I don't think you would find a 27 meter ssb only radio, it's going to be am and ssb or am only. And far as antenna calibration, there is no difference between am or ssb as far as adjusting your antenna.

I had the 148 years ago. It was a good radio. But most people now days just by the AM only radios. SSBs have kinda gone to the way side.

Ya now it will be like back in the 70's when there wasn't 9 billion kids on the radio that you had to talk over, ssb will be nice and quiet and possible to use for the few that have it, that's just about all I ever used for local and skippin.
