Quiet new CB mic

My buddy and I just got these new Cobra HG M84 mics for pretty cheap on ebay, brand new in box. We hook them up and both of us come out super quiet when we talk, I had my radio up all the way and could barely hear him while I was going like 25 mph.

I couldn't find hardly any reviews on it at all, and one I did said it was the best mic out there Other than the soun problem this thing seems pretty high quality, its heavy, has stainless steel parts and rubber hand grips. Feels solid in the hand.

Is it such a good noise canceling mic that it cancels our voices too?

What radio did you hook it up to? Do you have a mic gain knob and was it adjusted up?
Is the mic a power mic? (does it take a battery?)
