Ok here's the deal, do I get a 2m Or a duel or quad band radio? money is a definate issue but if I spend $200.00 today and then upgrade my class and want a nice radio later there is another 4-1k to put down not surewhat radio is a good starter, any Input?

Really depends on what you're going to do with it. As an example, my mobile is primarily for chewing the rag while commuting. I run dual banders in all three vehicles (2m/ 70cm). Local repeater are intermittantly active. In our Tahoe I run a FT-8800, in the YJ I have an FT-90, and my primary commuter has the ICOM IC-208H. It was selected for size.

I was talking to a guy with the FT-8900 quad bander yesterday. Apparently the radio does not have SSB on 10M. So your only option is 10M repeaters----not many of those.

We picked up a couple FT-2800's from gigaparts.com, they're just 2 meter radios but we've got all the space we need to carry on a conversation.

If you ever get tired of it or want to upgrade, they seem to hold their resale value well.
