RCA to speaker wire

I won't go into detail as to what I'm doing, but:

For the wires coming from an RCA jack, there are 2 wires. Ill call them an inner and an outer. Which is the positive and which is the negative?

Thanks

Ok, my lazy arse did some research and it appears it doesn't really matter as long as I am consistent.

Inner is always wired positive, outer as negative.

Edit: unless you're wiring both ends, in which case as you say it doesn't matter.

I don't think it'll matter, but here's the flow:

iPod -> left/right RCA -> left/right speakers

From what I read, as long as I am consistant in what I dub pos/neg for both left and right, all should be good.

Yes but for the sake of others who may some day have to figure out what you did, the center pin should be + and the outer should be -.

Good point. This isn't for my jeep. Just a temporary setup on the jet ski.

Amp kept flaking on me and running 2 batteries was a pain. So decided to just run straight to speakers. Won't be very loud but it'll do. /)

That won't work the iPod does not have enough power to power speakers.

Actually, it does. Just depends on how much volume you want and what size speakers they are.

When dealing with audio cabling, traditionally, the wire with the stripe is used for positive. But again, it doesn't matter as long as you keep it consistent.

Going from an Ipod to speakers?
With an RCA?
Why not just get a 3.5mm stereo cable and cut the wires?

Why not just get a 3.5mm jack to twin RCA lead for five bucks from Radio Shack?
