Redundant cb question

i tried to search through the nerd posts on cb's but couldn't get all i wanted. so, here's the deal. i got a royce cb new in the box dated 1977 from a buddy for basically free. (its huge ) i've had cb's in most of my jeeps, (cobras and uniden currently) but i would buy my stuff at a local cb specialty shop, which is no longer there. i knew all their stuff was good.

so now, i was looking at radio shack for antennas, and they had a few, but give me some info on what antenna to buy for the mj. should i buy a firestick? i want 4' i think for the truck. i don't want to use a magnet. i think dual antennas look cool, but are they just bs?

thanks nerds

Dual antennas...waste of money on a Jeep. They do look cool, but someone on here (Jerry I think) said our Jeeps aren't wide enough to space the antennas as far apart as they need to be in order to properly function.

Go with a single antenna...I personally recommend Firestik. Get one with the "tunable tip" on it too...you'll thank yourself when it comes time to tune it.

I bought all my cb stuff from this place...price was good, shipping was fast, and I had no issues with my order.

Get a 4' Firestix, tunable with a mounting spring-takes a lot of abuse and no damage

I'd just heard too much about the Firestick and I've used them for YEARS, actually might not be any diff.-I have just used them, with NO failures, so I don't have any reason for change !!

I like Firestik antennas over the equally good quality Wilson for one reason... it's stiffer so on a Jeep, that means it won't whip around and bang into everything. Wilsons are great quality but too whippy for a Jeep that goes offroad. That's why I don't run a spring either. A spring is fine for street Jeeps but it lets an antenna whip around too much on a tough trail.

Yep, don't waste your $$$ on dual antennas. Even if the Jeep was wide enough to make them work as intended, they are directional which means they transmit great to the front and rear but not very well to the sides... not something you'd want on the trail.
