replacing the factory nav head unit.

The touchscreen in my 08 jku is no longer working. The screen is peeling off and the touchscreen is no longer working. Im looking to replace it with a single din head unit, but on crutchfield they say I need a $129 adapter to make it work since I have the Infinity sound system. Is this adapter really needed? What have you guys needed or used to replace your factory head unit? I dont mind shelling out a few hundred bucks for a new stereo, but $129 for an adapter seems a bit steep. Thanks in advance.
