satellite radio attena

Crazy question, does anyone have any experience on where to put the magnetic attenda that comes with a satellite radio. Manual for the radio says it must go on a metal surface on the roof...or it may not work correctly. Does anyone know if it will work in different places and if so, where? Thanks. Larry

if it has no problems with weather, which it shouldn't...i might consider sticking in on the cowl area just infront of the windshield. seems like it'd be the same as the roof area on any normal sized car.

A friend has theirs on the hood I didn't want mine so visable, so.....
placed mine on the center roll bar of my TJ, under the padding, ran the wire and mounted the reciever in the area above the windshield (cut a hole and recessed the reciever). Looks and works great.

I just leave mine sitting right on the dash. I've had no problems with reception and it keeps anyone from snitching it or letting them know I have satelite radio in the jeep.

It has a magnetic base so place it on the center steel rollbar underneath the soft or hard top. Satellite antennas receive perfectly well underneath the soft and hard tops. Only steel hard tops block satellite signals.

My XM ant is of the small, black, key fob garage door remote looking variety. I noticed it looked much like the rubber windshield bumper on the hood. I popped out the passenger-side rubber, carved a small channel down one side of the plug, and ran the ant wire through it. I routed the wire out the back of the hood through the fender seam, then up and around the windshield hinge, then followed the fender seam back into the passenger compartment. The wire is very hidden. The ant sits directly behind the rubber. Very few people ever notice it even when looking for the ant.

I thought about getting XM radio, but I'm too afraid it will get stolen when I have the top off...

I was scrolling and came across the satelite radio antenna question. Mounting on hood results in heavy scratches and also interference from the windshield which is pependicular to the hood and causes interference if you are traveling any direction other than south. The solution is to mount it on the roll bar . Essentials Jepp Catalogue actually sells a mounting pouch. It works with boh hard top and soft top. Signal travels thru fiberglass hardtop.

UNzip the drivers side roll bar pad and place it on the roll bar. then rezip rollbar padding over attena. works great and it makes it easier when removing tops!

i just have mine sitting on top of the sound bar stuck to something metal in there. works great. as far as getting stolen with the top down, if its a plug and play unit, just disconnect it and pop it into the glove box or console when leaving the jeep.

I put ours on the Roll cage outside of the padding and strapped it in with velcro straps. Works great and only fades when in bad weather and under bridges.

Hey I just installed my Sirius Unit in my car and I just put it right ontop of the wheel well under the carpeting and I got no signal lost what so ever.
