simple tweeter install

Polk db6501's - I used the cup mount...this method should work with just about any component system.

Just cut a piece of metal a little wider than the cup (1/2" wide aluminum bar), drill a hole in the center then thread a bolt through the cup and metal - loosely secure with a nut....then treat it like a drywall butterfly toggle bolt - place the metal behind the factory edges in the tombstone, pull the cup towards you while you tighten.

Or just flush mount it so it doesn't stick out.

If you flush mount you have to cut the tombstone, thus preventing a return to stock in the future.

For me it wasn't that I was worried about returning to stock but that I would be cutting a hole that may or may not work should I ever change my tweeters to another make/model.

That's also a legitimate consideration.

I've sold one too many vehicles in the past with upgraded audio systems where I haven't seen anything like the value back for the components I've put in, so now when I do an upgrade I keep all of the stock pieces and ensure that I can return the whole thing to stock before selling it. After market audio systems can actually put buyers off or reduce the amount they're willing to pay because they think that you've potentially given them a bunch of electrical problems that they're going to have to deal with.

Panel popper or small screwdriver under the edge of the speaker, it will just pop out.
