I recently acquired a 1998 TJ Sport and have replaced the factory head unit with an Alpine CDA-105 with a SIR-ALP1 unit for Sirius radio. My problem is frequent signal cut out when listening to Sirius..
I had a friend make a mount similar to the Quadratec mount
so I could mount it on the top of my roll bar which I assumed to be the highest, best place for it to go. My Sirius reception in the TJ sucks compared to my BMW that came with it as a factory option which rarely cuts out. The Jeep cuts out constantly (albeit briefly) near foliage or 2+ story buildings
Here's a picture of my mount and placement:
It is near the passenger side of the roll bar (you can see the soundbar behind it)--
A few questions:
-- Would a "micro-dot" antenna work better in the same spot?
-- Should I move my existing square DIRECTED antenna to the hood?
I read around that the roll bar may not have an effective ground plane for the magnetic mount antenna to receive signal. I will note that I never have the soft top on.
I really don't want to have to move it onto the hood unless I have to, but if it will improve my signal I will.
Any ideas? All thoughts/experiences would be extremely helpful.
