Unhappy Sirius radio in wrangler

I have a 2007 Wrangler X (2-Dr); that has the WORST satellite connection EVER. I even had JEEP put in a new radio and the connection is just as bad. This is my 4th Jeep and I just can't get over how horrible the connection is. Does anyone else have issues with the SIRIUS connection?

If everything is connected properly and there is nothing wrong, you might contact Sirius. Have them send an update signal to your radio. You can either call them or use their website.

I have a Starmate 5 Sirius radio on a dock in my LJ, routed through my factory head unit. Antenna disc is mounted on the cowl in front of the windshield.
It works perfectly. Only loses signal when next to very tall buildings or under low-hanging trees.

Thanks, the radio was professionally done by Jeep, so I am hoping it was all installed properly. It's almost as if they didn't do anything, it was still losing signal, ACQUIRING SIGNAL, even sounds like a scratchy album sometimes, and the songs that are playing a "jumpy".

Where would I get something like this and can I install it myself? I'd rather not purchase any other SIRIUS radio stuff, the Jeep is small enough and adding anything else to the dash is crazy.

I got my radio and install kit at Best Buy. Had to buy a couple extra antenna cables/adapters.
I have my radio on a dock mounted to my console in front of my shifter. Easy to see when on, easy to camouflage when parked. I like that volume control is through my headunit, but station tuning remains on the radio.
I also like that I can easily slide my radio off of the dock in the Jeep, take it in the house and dock it on my Sirius boombox.

Did this several times .... connection on radio is so bad, that SIRIUS sometimes disconnects on its own

I've never seen the inside of a JK, but on my TJ, I have my little Sirius receiver (similar to the one posted above) mounted above my mirror on the plastic trim piece that the sunshades attached to. It's a perfect spot, IMO.

Also, I would guess that you have a loose connection somewhere but just out of curiosity, where is your antenna mounted? The antenna really doesn't even need to be on the exterior of the Jeep- just don't have it under or partially surrounded by anything metal. Mine is on top of the center roll bar, hidden under the padding and I never have any reception issues whatsoever- even with the soft top on.

2013 JKR w/ 430N

Instead of creating a whole new thread I thought I'd hop on this one.

Is it just me or does the quality of the Sirius broadcasts a little better than AM but not as good as FM? It just seems like the bit rate is so low that the highs sound like they're coming through tin can or something. They get "washy" sounding like a low quality mp3.

It is not just you.
The signal compression makes it sound like AM radio...

My bet is the Sirius radio installer chose a poor location for the satellite antenna. Satellite signals are extremely high frequency and are strictly line-of-sight, unlike a CB or AM radio antenna. I'd look for the antenna and move it to the top of the center rollbar where it should not cause any interference issues with a hard or soft top. You can even place the antenna underneath the rollbar padding if you like, the satellite signal will pass through the padding/hardtop/soft top like they weren't even there.

My antenna was installed in the drivers side corner of the dash near the windshield and I only have only had an issue when driving through some mountain passes.
