So my TJ came with some sort of system

i recently purchased a tj sahara and the person took out his amp and subs from the trunk the wiring is still there and the sound bar. the sound bar has 6.5 sony xplode speakers that sound like crap. i took the grill off today and the front speakers seem to be stock. so i just purchased some 4x6 kicker speakers from crutchfield. will i need to add an amp right away or can it wait until i get some more funds to get subs/amp. will the kicker speakers make a difference becuase the ones in the dash i can barely hear

Is the head unit stock or aftermarket? You should get the brackets to convert the front to 5.25, it makes a difference. If the HU is stock switch to an aftermarket one to see if that can float your boat until the funds come along for the sub and amp. If you don't want to spend a ton you could switch HU's, switch out speakers, then get a four channel amp and run the fronts off of two channels and bridge the other two to a sub and let the HU power the rears.

I would highly recommend picking up the 5.25" mod-pod's for the kickpanels. They were great and IMO 100x better than the factory dash location in my old TJ. They're sealed enclosures and are molded to fit perfectly under the doors.
