Question Sound system setup

I have a 98 TJ without the soundbar option and a pair of Polk speakers in the front that aren't cutting it by themselves. So it's time to expand. I'm thinking my setup will be something like this: leave the 2 front speakers, throw in quadratec's tweeters in the front, soundbar, and then a 12" sub in the rear in a stealth box. Now any of this is subject to change, so here's where you guys come in. I'm looking for good, powerful sound, and I want to know as much as I can to have it. First things first, I'm trying to decide on the soundbar.

For those of you with the VDP 6-speaker bar, how is the sound? And if not so good, are the speakers replaceable? If the 6-speaker proves to have a very full sound, I will go with that. Otherwise I'll probably go with the VDP 2-speaker Supreme with the 300W peak, and just deal with my high-range frequencies with some external tweeters and what not.

On a similar note, if the soundbar can throw out enough low-range power, then I might not have to deal with a sub. I've done the "shake-neighbors-car" power before and I don't think that's what I want to do this time, especially since I don't have a whole lot of space this time to do it in lol. Also, how does the center console subwoofer work for balancing out the low-end sound? I see it's a pretty small woofer, so I wasn't sure. I also have an Alpine 4-channel amp that works great to balance the power to the speakers, but I'm not quite sure I know the best way to incorporate it with this system...power just the soundbar?

This was a lot of writing with a lot of questions, but I would really appreciate some responses! Thanks

first off, the peek power rating for any audio equipment is not what rating you should look at. the RMS power rating is what you look at. you could have a speaker with 500watt peek, but only have 25watt rms. peek power is measured by sending the most power possible to a speaker for 1 second without the speaker blowing.

second, vdp is not a good company, its over priced and is at the same level as sony car audio(just an expensive paper weight)

third, what is your spending limit? this makes a major change in advice on what to get to have a "full" stereo system.

If you like the sound bar, then you should stick with it. There are packages avalable out there where you can get the sound bar with no speakers. I would recommend this. I agree with Jma20a that there speakers blow litterally. If you are going to do any type of 4 wheeling where water is involved then I would suggest looking at the marine line of products. Protect your investment. Also the RMS power is what is important like Jma said. A 12" sub will be a tough fit in a jeep unless you plan on taking out the back seat or go with a shallow stlye sub. The stealth box is a great option because it will help keep your sub protected. Lets face it these things arent designed to accomidate to many audio options.

Look here for what you want. Only bad thing about marine is the limited sizes of speakers.

To Jma20a, I know you're right about the RMS. I've installed my own system on my other car and I know that the "50 x 4 Watts" peak power rating for the head unit meant nothing when I had the separate 4-channel amp distributing a more even load to the speakers.

I did check out marine audio briefly before, but I don't think I plan on doing too much swimming, not other than the usual rain that might catch me with the top down.

As of now I haven't really set a budget. I guess I really don't want to go into show-quality system pricing, but I would say $1500-2000, not including head unit, might be a realistic range. I would just end up doing it in steps, like speakers/soundbar first, then head unit upgrade, subs, etc..

Thanks for the input guys!
