Nice work! I was thinking of cutting the speaker out it's frame and install the new speaker using the same frame. just to have the holes line up in the front.

i made it of wood.

4x6 speakers are more expensive than 5.25" round speakers. and they are not as loud and the sound isn´t as good.

are you looking to replace just the speakers or upgrade the head unit as well?

Dont try to get bass out of small speakers in a tj. The sound bar is too thin, the front speakers are too small. Focus on voice and get a sub for bass.

I agree with Jma20a on the Boston Acoustic's...great speakers. I have Kenwoods in my TJ and they also sound great.

i have the infinity kappa perfect components in the roll bar and the infinity kappa 3-ways in the dash. tripp is right on the bass out of small speakers so getting a sub will even out the stereo. if you are going to get new speakers go with a new head unit. you can run nice speakers through the stock head unit and they are not going to sound that great. alpine, pioneer, clarion, and kennwood all make some good head units. if you chose to get some high end speakers you should look to also get an amp for them. there are few good head units that put out some good power but it all depends on your budget.

Not a very common company as of yet, but I'll be putting Fusions in my Jeep once I've got a chance to play around with non vital stuff. I work for west marine and we just started carrying their marine line, but deal direct with them, they make 5.25 2 ways, and 4x6 2 ways, so what the hell I'll order them at 20% over cost and see how they sound.

Just thought I'd throw them out there, especially for people who desire waterproofness in the audio equipment.

Pretty sure aftermarket 4x6s won't fit in the stock bracket too, if I'm not mistaken. My buddy just tried and had to make some.

You won't find ANY aftermarket 4x6 speakers that will fit because the TJ uses a totally non-standard 4x6 speaker. Its mounting dimensions are completely different from a standard 4x6 speaker. Your only real (viable) upgrade option is to convert to the 5.25" speaker size up front. The only alternative is to use a hacksaw and drill and force-fit an aftermarket 4x6 speaker into the factory opening but it's harder than it sounds and your results will not be good.

It's duct tape. It's there so I won't get cut. I cut out the old speaker with tin snips.

What is the advantage to a plate speaker such as Infinity 6422 CFP vs the Infinity 6422 CF
I am considering the 4x6 for the Front dash replacements.

Also what do you recommend for the rear sound bar replacements.

Thanks

I have Fusions in my stock sound bar. The speakers are nice, the vibration from that crappy sound bar boxes suck! I ran silicon beads and even used foam ear plugs to act as shock absorbers on the screws. They still vibrate and sound like they are blown.

I did the metal template thingy a few years back thanks to seeing it online, probably here. It has worked great. I also have to 6x9 boxes in the back with Sony Explodes that sound great, even after being rained on a few times as well as being soaked with rum and puked on a Buffett tailgate.

when you get the overhead soundbar i suggest adding $5-$15 more on to the price of a set of midrange sony speakers and upgrade to some infinity's, alpine's, poineer's, boston acoustic's, nb quart's, or kickers. it makes a very big difference. all you are paying for with sony is the name. example: you spent $100 on a set of sony speakers. for the speaker you are paying $20, for the letter "S" you are paying $20, for the letter "O" you are paying $20, for the letter "N" you are paying $20, and for the letter "Y" you are paying $20.

What do you think of Polk DB 521 5 1/4 speakers for the Sound Bar? And the Polk DB 561p 4X6 for the front speakers. The specs seem good and the 521s are waterproof.
