So this afternoon, My father, uncle and I installed my new stereo! Both my father and I have also zero experience with car audio, my father owns a home theater company so we know audio just not car audio
Luckily my uncle was here! He won nationals for some car audio competition or something or other. He knows his stuff! He hooked me up with everything i needed. Now that we have some background here, lets move into the review/small install write up!
hm..... the sub, can you say CLEAN? lol no, but my first thoughts were, really nice quality, compact, not to heavy, and convenient. The sub is a 10" sub, but it really in a small box, the amp is located IN the box, in a small sections beneathe the amp (Pics tomorrow)
The amp is a 250watt amp, and powers the sub quite well. The sound is really clean and clear, the sub with the top off, is noticeable and adds good lows and feel to my music. The sub is facing backwards toward the rear trunk door thingy lol. (pics tomorrow)
With the HARDTOP
on The bass is really noticeable, the hardtop keeps almost all the audio in the jeep, its pretty wild, sitting in the jeep with all the audio and then stepping out and closing the door and it sounding really quite. Inside the jeep the bass is really clean and crisp, but i don't sound like a ghetto caddi rolling down the street. Overall this Kenwood 10" sub sounds really nice for only being powered by 250Watts, its got good sound and punch but doesn't punch a hole in the wallet
As the installation gose, the wiring was really easy! I used the pre-bundled wirring for most of it, but then ran RCA cable as well
The sub is on the left half of my trunk, and the cable goes under the carpet on the drivers side all the way up to the head unit! (Pics Tomorrow)
The Roll Bar Speakers
These! the kenwood 6 1/2's, well these were the first to go in, and with JUST the two 6 1/2's in the roll bar, alone the sound was really clear and loud. they fit the factory roll-bar hole, but one speaker didn't match up with the factory screw holes, so we used a few self tapping screws and got her in there
these power the mids and highs pretty well, and look really awesome in the sound bar, the speakers in the bar before weren't that bad off, but still an increase in quality and such. overall i really like these! (pics tomorrow)
Installation, well the first one we spent maybe 3 or 4 minutes slowly getting the screws to line up, took some time, but worked fine, the left rear speaker we just couldn't get it to line up, so we just but 3 self tapping screws and got one of the screws in the factory hole.
The Dash Speakers
Well as you can see from the picture, the old ones were torn to h3ll, and man did the new speakers add a lot of clarity to the music in the front two seats. The 6 1/2's and the sub kinda out play the speakers, so siting the jeep the sound is a overall sound now, like i can't sit there and say, that's the front and that's from the back, they all play as one. Overall these were good quality as well, we did make out own mounts, because when we removed the previous speakers the mounts were cracked and one piece as coming apart.
As i was running the sub woofers wiring and RCA cables and my uncle was getting the old head unit out, my father cut the new mounts out of abs plastic, we replicated the old mounts with marker and used a dremel to cut them out. other then that they plugged right up and fit great.
The Head Unit
The head unit, probably helped me out the most, the sound is great its pre-amp is pretty good, it looks good, and the quality is nice, the only problem with the head unit is the volume knob will get depressed easily going into like bass, treble and etc adjustments. other than that, its a great unit.
Installing this was the only trouble we ran into, we got the wrong adapter plate, so we had to go get the right one, and the adapter plug dealy, that goes into the back of the head unit ( really newb, but i forgot its name :]) was wrong as well, so we had to pick that up, my brother was out and just got it while we did everything else.
Honestly to most this setup is probably basic, the speakers, sub, and head unit were pretty cheap, but all in all the quality of audio is 100000x better than before, and it didn't hurt the bank. I get good highs all the way down to good bass hits and its not rattling the other cars around me. Tonight was my 1 month with the new GF, so we went out, saw a movie and ate, she loves the jeep and was digging the new sound
