Speakers

My wife and I just purchased a new 2012 wrangler 2 door Monday, and she already was wondering what size rear sound bar speaker was in our jeep. I think the system is the basic sound system and it is 6 speaker with sat radio. What would be a good replacement speaker for that location to just give the radio a bit better sound without moding it too much?

There are plenty of threads on here about this topic. The speakers in the soundbar and dash are all the same, 6.5" speakers. They are a shitty paper cone speaker, very lightweight. You can replace them with the Mopar 77KICK10 upgrade for around $80/pair from justjeeps, quadratec, etc. These speakers are Kicker branded and a much higher quality speaker, but the best part is that they are plug and play. The mounts match up as do the connectors. You can just swap them out. Also, I would polyfill the soundbar or speaker boxes in the dash while you are in there.

You can go with another speaker option as well, but I thought I would mention these as a quick and easy replacement. I feel that if you are going to keep the stock HU, then you might be wasting your money on anything else because the HU just won't power it well.

Got the kickers today from the Dodge store, and a good price too I guess at just over $70 a pair. I installed them tonight but thinking back about your reply you said about poly filling the sound bar. What do I use and how do I go about it and what is it going to accomplish? Sound is better, more bass for sure but wanted to ask you about the filler.

Figured it out last night, stuffed the sound bar with the wife's quilting supplies or whatever. Anyway the sound quality is way better than without, thanks for the info, happy wife make a happy life.

Glad it worked out for you! Did you just do the soundbar or did you do the dash as well?

Just did the sound bar for now because the front speakers are a bit tricky to get at, but some rainy day when i have nothing to do I will get at it. Great results.

[QUOTE=DustinLH00;2340177]There are plenty of threads on here about this topic. The speakers in the soundbar and dash are all the same, 6.5" speakers.

I have seen threads of people putting all different size speakers in their JK's

I have a pair Focal PS 130's ( 5-1/4" components)
and also a pair of Focal PS 165's (6-3/4" components)

Will the 165's fit in the dash and the 130's fit in the roll bar??????

Not sure on that. Both locations are 6-1/2". I know you can get brackets to put smaller speakers in the location, but I don't know how you would squeeze the bigger ones in...

The 6-3/4" speakers should fit in the sound bar. With my replacement 6.5" ones, there was some extra plastic on the sound bar. Not sure if the bigger speaker would block the 3 points of contact for the stock covers though? Probably not.

Probably less likely to get a bigger speaker diameter on the front pods.
