Hey guys, looking to redo all my speakers in the jeep (all of 2 in the dash...), and other than replacing those and getting a soundbar to improve sound quality, i have a couple of questions...
will the sound be nice with just those 8 speakers (6 in soundbar and 2 in dash)?
Do you guys get special speakers made for jeeps? i.e waterproof, or something?
do you guys get special amps that can withstand possibly getting wet? i was going to mount the amp to the floor under the back seat, but was scared if i left the top down, and it got rained on, it would be ruined...
any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys...
I run only 4 speaker, 2 in dash 2 in sound bar. They are pioneer, forgot the model but they are about $60-$70 for a pair....
I really dont focus on my sound system in my jeep, I will eventually get subwoofer in though. I just use the music to drown out all the ratteling and vibrating going on inside the jeep.
P.s.- replacing the dash speakers are a pain in the ass, 3 hour job with a buddy working your ass off. Whole dash has to come off if you wanna do it right.

Shouldn't be that bad... Mine were only held on the 4 posts with the Thin Washers with slits in the middle...they were a bit of a pain to back off the stud. A couple had a nut too. Just lay on you back with a good work light and reach up in there.
Once I had stock out, used them as templat to drill holes in new speakers......then just slipped new ones back over the studs. Could be a pain if you have fat arms I guess.....but it can be done in short order without removing dash.
I really haven't done any stereo work other than a reciever in my jeep so I don't have any experience to share. Have you checked out any marine stereo equipment? You may be able to find something there that can withstand a little water. If nothing pans out there you could put a little lift on your amp. Make some spacers to keep it up off the floor.
My sound bar came with the jeep, thanks to the previous owner. The dash speakers don't work, and that's fine with me. All this said, I wouldn't put too much effort, or spend too much money on good sound, unless you plan to listen to your tunes while parked in the driveway. While driving, there just SO much other noise, rattles, flapping, wind, to appreciate a good system.
get 4 speakers for the dash.. 2 go in the regular holes by your legs there and then get 2 more small shelf tweeters like those (bottom of page) just whatever shape you like or find.. and install those at each corner of ur dash (I highly, highly, highly.. recomend tweeters there..dash tweeters > soundbar speakers). For the sound bar get 2 3 way 6.5" speakers and you are good. Trust me on that tweeters will make one of the greatest difference in sound when they are placed ahead of you where they belong.
On a soft top wrangler where flapping is a big issue i recomend tweeters even more since the rear speakers get muted by the flapping while the tweeters are in front of you so you will hear music much better
The tweeters get parallel(y?) connected to the 2 front speakers.
cool, thanks for the info guys. maybe ill replace the 2 in dash, get 2 tweeters in the front, and then something like this (link below, at work and cant post pics) for the back, mounted on the wheel wells. maybe not even get a soundbar... not too sure...
i just looked on yahoo just to show you a pic.. you should be able to find stuff like that in electric stores.. best buy, circuit city, etc.. computer speakers.. whatever they have..
keep in mind the speakers you showed are 37ish.. thats just the boxes..
I don't know about quality of product but i googled and found those tweets for less than 10.00 shipped... Crap or not if there junk toss them if they work ok for a year great deal.
yeah, i didnt want to risk it, so i passed on the pyramid products. i ended up getting overhead sound pods with 6x1/2 eclipse 3 way speakers, changed out the front dash 4x6 to polk momo 4x6 plate speakers, and added infinity tweeters in a little mount i made so that they face you instead of up... i just took a little 1 1/4" (i believe) pvc elbow, painted it, and mounted it in rubber caps to under my cluster gauges. i even made the wires be quick disconnect, so when i leave it in a bad area, i can just pull them off the caps, disconnect the wires, and store them in my tuffy... maybe ill take pics sometime...
oh deffinately... sounds great... im thinking about just picking up a little bazooka tube sub to go in the back just to help on the low end some... but it still sounds great right now... thanks
I got my setup from ebay.. 1 12" L7 Kicker sub firing to one side.. 1 kx450 kicker amp and 4 gauge wire kit all from ebay. I made the box my self for about 15 bucks. the entire setup was probably ~350
Bass is loud and clear. This one sub sounds better than my old 2 10" punches.
