Take a look at this sub.

What's the story with this subwoofer/amp? Does anyone know?

Its the OEM subwoofer that is located in the center console on 2001+ TJ's with the 7-speaker sound system upgrade. If you don't have a 2001+ TJ, I'd look to the aftermarket for a subwoofer.

Thing is I have the 7 speaker system and blew the sub. I'm looking for anything "out of the way" cuz I spend every weekend surf fishing and I use just about every inch of space in my jeep haulin my equipment down. Yeah, I appreciate a nice thump as much as the next guy but I'd rather catch bull reds and 30" trout than make my neighbors' ears bleed. Any suggestions? Seems like I saw an amplified sub somewhere that hangs on the tailgate.. how about that one?

Check those 3 out. The 10" will easily fit in the back behind the rear seat in one corner. The 8" should fit underneath the rear seat while the 12" would require the rear seat to be moved forward a bit.

This other one is also good (back) and will fit inside the trunk

You can also get a bazooka and bolt it on to the roll bar.

You think the Boss will fit? Doesn't it need a bit of breathing room? I wouldn't want to set either of my kids asses on fire.

I have a kicker amp underneath my seat and it had about 1" of space there. My amp was 2.5" while the boss is 2.75".. If you want you can cut out a bit from underneath the seat and make it hollow.

There are also those in seat subwoofers.. a box thats made to fit perfectly and mount inside the rear seat.

Seems like that 10" Boss would be the most out of the way. It's not as stealthy as under the seat but at least I wouldn't have to worry about putting gear on top of it. Don't know much about Boss though. Thanks for the advice.

In my experience i'm very satisfied with Boss products.

My local best buy store has this one in stock and it sounded good. You should go lurk around some day and see if you can find one.

I'm running two 10" subs behind my rear seat and paid all of about $100 bucks for the double sub box and two Kenwood 1000W subs. All brand new! I love that I don't have to go the the mesuse anymore I just sit in the rear seat and CRANK IT UP!

I found the box on craigslist (just got lucky with that one I guess) the guy was going to install it but found a ported box instead. and the two kenwoods I got off amazon.com. just gotta look for the good deals (add up the shipping and price to make sure). I'm running a pioneer 750W amp with a pioneer deck (soon to be replaced with a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X492 )

oh and I just got some Infinity Kappa 462.7cfp

box didn't need to be bolted down it sits really firm between the trunk door and my rear seat. they are down firing (the only way to go in a jeep as far as I'm concerned) I had one facing toward the seat before I got this box and it sounded like shit. go down firing.

I have the Boss 8" amp / sub combo bolted to the tub under the back seat on the pass side. Plenty of sound and my kids like how it vibrates their butt..

I'm in the process of replacing my console sub

I just received my 8" fosgate sub now I'm waiting for my fosgate amp to get here

so far it looks like I can do some modification to the factory sub box and the 8" sub will fit
if nothing else I will build a box out of some mdf that will fit in the console

this JL sub is 6.5" same as the factory one in the console. It sounds amazing and isnt a giant beacon that flashes please come burgle my TJ.

Edit: the mounting depth and magnet size is not the same as stock woofer. they are larger but still fit into the center console. it will also need a aftermarket amp to drive it, factory amp just wont do.

Whey going out to purchase "Silver" new I was sure I wanted the sound system all factory installed. After approx. 2 yrs. with my girl, i'm very happy with the setup and could'nt ask for much more. Of course the past vehicle (13+yrs.) had no factory sound...period.

A decent sound system for what it is.

i like my audiobahn immortal sub with 4 3" voice coils, lots of sound, you can feel the bass moving air in and out of your lungs when turned up 3/4 of the way. its a little much for a small vehicle so i keep it turned way down, still thumps good.

I went ahead and bought this one. It's definitely enough bass for me (mostly listening to dead, allmans, reggae and classic rock). It fits perfectly in my insta trunk.

if you're looking for something affordable and out of the way build your own center console/ sub enclosure out of mdf and fiberglass. There are tons of buildups on yahoo. I'd just search for how to fiberglass sub enclosures or something similiar to that.

If you decide to build ur own box, use 1/2" msd.. its worthless to use bigger unless you go to competitions with serious power and a huge +3 cubic ft box.

as far as fiberglass goes, you still gotta use some supports (at least very 14-16 gauge chicken wire) as fiberglass alone will not be strong enough unless you go many many sheets which gets expensive quite fast.

very quick write up:

lay some tin foil or masking tape on your floor, lay fiberglass matt or cloth and make a mold of your floor. Try and make atleast 5-6 layers. when it sets up you will have a perfect mold of your floor between your seats. Grab the sharpie and draw what dimensions you want. Make some speaker rings, grab some wooden dowls/ rods and hot glue three of them to the angle and direction you want the subs to be facing (will work great for 8" and 10"). Wrap the everything with fleece. Wrap it very tightly and hot glue the fleece to the bottom of the fiberglass mold. The apply the resin directly to the fleece. You wont need anymore fiberglass matt or cloth for this. As long as the fleece was soaked thoroughly it will be strong enough to hold the subs (trust me). Cut the fleece around the inner rings out and reinforece the inside edges where the fiberglass meets the bottom. Porbably 2 layers of matt. Cover with carpet or suede/synthetic suede. It will make it so you don't have to sand as much.

2nd option and easiest fully 1/2"MDF or 1/2"MDF/Fiberglass. Full MDF just a sub box essentially. Make the floor out of MDF and the sides whatever design you want for sides. Get the speaker rings and hot glue them in place as before, stretch and staple, soak in resin, reinforce insides with more matt and resin on the sides/seems and then go over the bottom of the seems with expandable foam (not necessary, but quick way to make sure insulated)

here is a quick console I built for my truck with 11.5" screen. Spent like 3 hours. My Early fiberglassing I don't have any better pics, sorry.

i got sick of sanding and just covered it in synthetic suede

all fiberglass is just nice because you can use a lot of "empty/useless space" for a console I would go with mdf/glass combo.

Have you tried looking at aftermarket stealth boxes? q-logic, mtx thundrforms,
