TJ Factory Sub Info Needed

I pulled the center console out of my 2003 TJ yesterday.

The sub grille is really badly damaged. I think I will replace the whole center console...

The sub box has a wiring harness that can possibly be factory. It has ELEVEN wires!!! Is that right???

The PO mounted a bracket to the back side (above the rear cup holders) that looks like the former home of a small, removable CB. (There is a mic clip on the dash, but no antenna mount anywhere that I can find. Weird.)

Anyway, this wiring harness is unbelievable. It has 12 pins. One is capped off and eleven are in use. Could this be for the sub and the CB together? Also, could he have had an amp back by the stock sub that ran off this harness, too?

WTH?

I would like to clean up this mess and install a sub. I know an un-amped sub will not sound all that wonderful, but I am not picky; an un-amped sub will be better than no sub at all, which is what I currently have. Would rewiring this be all that hard to do? If I use some system like the stock one, can I just order the correct harness from the dealership? (Meaning the harness only and not including the sub, cabinet and center console.)

Photos in a few minutes...

Here are some photos of what I have.

First two are of the connector. Stock? anyone?

The 3rd one is of the wiring as it exits the front shifter cover. Is this stock wiring? Can't be. Again, anyone?

Last photo shows the sub cabinet next to the center console. It has no lock on the storage cubby, the speaker grille is broken and will require a homemade cover. (Looks like there was one screwed down to it in the past.) It is all scratched and banged up. I will probably junk yard a replacement if I can, but that will require rekeying. Maybe a replacement from Quadratec. Hmm...

I am more concerned about that mondo giganto wiring harness. Rip it out and rewire? Or just leave it alone? Again, I think he ran the CB off this as there are no other wires anywhere. The last photo shows the full harness, but it also shows that there are only four leads, so maybe it was + and - for the speaker and the CB? Does the stock sub have more than two wires running to it?

One last one:

Is this all there is? The sub box has a heat sink on the passenger side. If the wires work, would I only need the correct sub, then; plug it in and screw it down?

There is a good write up for this upgrade, regardless of what subwoofer you use. There is also information about the wiring in this thread as well. My understanding is that there are two sets of speaker wires for the subwoofer, and you don't need both sets.

How To Replace The Factory Subwoofer - JeepForum.com

Crutchfield also did a video writeup for the install here.

For the grill, maybe you could just mount the speaker grill that came with your subwoofer over the hole, and cut out the rest of the grill in your console.
You could even spray paint the whole thing if you wanted it to look stock.

More than anything I need to know about that harness. Is it stock? It looks like the stock one has a lot of wires, but the sub has only four. What are the other seven for?

I am looking at the video now and will read the thread later. Thanks!

The harness that you are talking about looks stock to me. It looks like the same harness on the first page of the thread that I referred you. Jeep seems to keep certain things as proprietary information, as I haven't seem a diagram for all those wires. I haven't seen detailed spec's on any of their audio systems either. It must be seen as proprietary information. That's my only guess.
