Tring to hook up subs and amp

Well i built a box in the back of my TJ and have two 10" xplods and a 1000 watt xplod amp but i am having trouble gettin power to both the car and the amp cause i hooked the amp up to the battery and then tryd to start my car and it just ticked once and all power was lost i have no clue what happend i was thinking maybe i needed a nother battery but im not sure.

Oh and if some one knows alot about amps then maybe you could help me i have never hooked up an amp or subs i ran the wire from the subs to the amp + and - all that good stuff but where is the romote wire and do i really need that i have the ground between some bolts and power with the fuse straight from the battery to the amp but its like not getting power i dont know what i did wrong please give me some advice.

Ill bet you wired an "always on" wire to the remote on the amp so it drained the battery.
The remote wire is very important, it tells the amp when to be on and when to be off, wire that into something thats on when the ignition is on and off when the ignition is off.
To find such a wire, buy a took from Walmart thats basically a big needle with a light on the top, you poke it into wires and if the light is on, theres power!

in your radio wiring harness there is a wire that's marked power antenna
hook the amp to that wire (might be a blue wire at least it is with my jeep)
and the main power is supposed to be from the batt. and for the ground
if you grind or sand some paint off the tub in a little spot and put a metal screw there that's your ground (preferably close to the amp)

as for the tick when you tried to start the jeep
make sure the positive battery cable wire is tight on the the battery terminal not a good enough battery connection will cause that
(if that made any sense)

if that is tight your battery might be dead

the first thing i would do in you situation is get rid of those piece of s*** subs and amp. trust me they suck, just because it says sony doesn't make it good, there car audio is a complete waist of money, the stock sub on the center console has about the same bass as those subs. as mr4x4 said you need to connect that remote turn on wire to the "power antenna" wire it should be blue with a white stripe, and as he also said sand some paint off where the ground wire is placed, try to keep the ground wire less then 2 feet long

For sure, sony car audio is about as good as best buy's lighting brand. you want good shit... look at kicker, jl, or mtx for subs and amp. and infinity, mb quart, and hk for speakers.

haha, WORD. I think the only sony cd reciever that I have bought that I liked was this guy:

don't get me wrong its still a piece, and it sold for like $800. I got it at a going out of business sale at some audio shop for 250. It doesn't have an internal amplifier. There audio equipment just blows compared to other companies. They do the trick though at an affordable price. You're just not going to win any comps or anything.

Its ok though, when I was 17 my first subs and reciever were sony. Xplod just came out and I was young and ignorant. I thought the Xplod was going to be the best thing out there. Especially since at the time the mex5di reciever was the coolest thing out at the time.

X2 on the power antenna. It may just be labeled as ant. on the wiring harness.

I disagree, buddy of mine had 2 10" lightning audio speakers and they sounded much better than my other friend 12" Xplods (THEY ARE NAMED THAT FOR A REASON DODE).

I got a 12" kicker L7 with a kicker KX 450x2 amp in my rig and i love that thing.

The remote amp needs a 12 volt signal. No need for a huge gauge wire, just a small little 18 gauge will do the job great.

so the 12 volt goes to the battery with a fuse right next to the battery
the amp remote goes to a a 12 volt sorce that turns on when you turn the key to on position or if you ahve an aftermarket cd player the blue amp remote wire.
at last ground goes to the nearest big bolt connected to the chassis.. keep it at short as possible but still leave it few inches of play just in case you need to service it and you need to move the amp around a bit.

I think you are not getting a good connection at the battery though.

Might work with the stock radio but if he is using a non stock radio, such as Alpine, the power antenna lead is only powered when the radio is on. If he switches to CD, or AUX the sub will no longer receive power.

The easiest way to do it is just hook it up to a 12 volt ACC wire. (wire that turns on when the key is on position.
