Uconnect dont liky Samsung/android

Got myself a cool new phone. Finally jumped off the apple-cart.

Even though its a heck of a learning curve to switch over from my i5 (apple is kinda like the cell-phone version of AOL...it works for everything THEY want you to do.) Anyhow.....I like the S4. To each their own. Please keep the diatribe to a minimum, plenty of room on CSPAN for that crap.

No....to the point (at last). My 2012 430N loves my phone. They get along great. I can do lots of stuff that I never knew was possible with the iPhone.

HOWEVER...there is one think it wont do. When I plug the Galaxy into the console USB port....uconnect cannot find it and I get an error message on the phone saying that it doesn't recognize the PC software or some such shenanigans.

That's just not much fun at all.

Any of you tech wizzes have an idea of what box I need to check, feature I need to activate or de-activate or user interface I need to stroke to make my two electronic words get along and make beautiful music together?

Everything works....but the Console USB connection...which worked fine with the iPhone yesterday. Yup...I tried multiple cables....and rebooting (everything)...

Thoughts?

I paired my S4 bluetooth, and I put it in driving mode. I haven't had any problems yet, other than uconnect sometimes doesn't recognize contacts when using voice text or when uconnect reads incoming texts.

Try this; In settings, under storage. Change the USB computer connection setting. I don't think it will work if set to PTP, change it to MTP. If it's already MTP, change it to PTP and give it a shot.

Basically, you want the radio to see the phone as a USB drive.

The other thing you can do is put a bunch of music on a USB thumb drive, organized in folders Artist/Album, and use that.

I'll try mine sometime today and confirm the settings. I've used my android phone for music but have re-purposed my old iphone as a music only device and use that in the jeep.

The issue is that the phone supports MTP files and doesn't use the phone as a mass storage device. Most phones now support the MTP files which make them incompatible with the Uconnect (and most other car kits), they support "mass storage device" which would use the phone as a large thumb drive.

I didn't realize this, makes sense with the way MTP exposes the filesystems. My Galaxy S3 has an option for mass storage, but it only loads the external sd card as a drive. I shold mention that my phone has thir party firmware, I don't think that option is in the stock OS.

There are apps in the play store that will allow you to toggle the usb connection between mass storage and MTP, but you most likely need root access.

I'll have to look into the SD card and the ability to use as a mass storage device, I also don't think it's a stock option. I'll also have to look into the play store for some of those apps that you mentioned. Thanks for the info.

Sounds like the console USB port just became ......useless.

Reckon its best to just go "old school" and get power from the "cigarette lighter" and just pump signal via Bluetooth.

I was hoping I'd be able to squeak a teensy bit more bit-rate through the cable....but the difference in audio quality wouldn't be sufficiently evident to override the sound of me bitching about how much trouble it is to make it happen "effortlessly".

Ahhh....21st century sniveling.

Im still happy with my Jeep and my phone.

"useless" only to phones that support the MTP files, but useful to those that support being able to be used as a mass storage device, MP3 players, thumb drives, iPods and more.
