Uniden 510 CB Question

Quick question regarding the unit 510 CB radio that I just installed. When I am keying the mic the s/rf indicator goes all the way up to the red led at 4. Also on most all channels I am getting about 2 bars on the s/rf indicator in receive at all times. Just courious as to whether this is a normal action or not. The lowest I can get my SWR is to 2:1 on both channel 1 and 40. Channel 20 is 1.2:1. I haven't messed with a CB in years so am trying to remember all of this.

Your SWR is fine as is.

Your s/rf indicator goes all the way up on transmit because it is showing /rf.

That's an indication of power out. 2 bars on receive indicates a high noise level. Now you are looking at s/ , it is giving you a reading of signal strength.

Got ya there in that the s/rf indicators are for receive/transmit indications. With that being said, I just wanted to clarify that on this partiular radio in the transmit mode the last led which lights up red isn't a negative indications as in high swr or anything like that. I assume its just showing max power then?

As for in the receive mode and alway having at least 2 led's on all channels, thats is noise? How can I circumvent that?

Don't think the 510 has any SWR metering, your last lite light should be fine.

Noise - is it there all the time or just when running. HF AM has a bit of noise all the time. If you turn up the squelch, it will knock it out, but also block any weak signals.

Its there all of the time. Always at least 1 bar, sometimes two on all channels. I went on a trail ride with a big group this weekend and turned up the squelch to block it out. On the trail the radio performed like a champ. I don't like the idea of possible missing weaker signals having to use the squelch but oh well.

Here is the bracket that I made for my Firestik to mount on the windshield bracket.
