Uniden pro520xl PA (problem?)

I Have a Uniden Pro520xl and I've installed an external speaker and a PA horn/speaker. The CB radio and external speaker work great but when I switch it to PA it seems to just use the PA speaker as another external speaker. When I speak into the mic I can hear myself through the PA but I get a response from the CB channel I'm on and also hear the other person on the PA. What am I missing here? Isn't the PA feature supposed to be separate from the CB radio?

First thing I would check is make sure the you have wired the speakers properly, and that wires from the cb to speakers are not touching in the back. If they are wired poperly, I would say that the internals of the cb are wired wrong. If it is new, I would return it.

I have the same issue with my uniden 520 that I just installed. I'm switching back to a cobra 19 in the near future to avoid all of the pa mess. I never had a problem using the cobra19 pa system.

Ok...PA = PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT! When you switch to PA it sends everything through the PA speaker. If you have it set on PA and somebody tries to contact you again it will go through the PA speaker. If you don't want to go to the PA speaker then flip it DOWN off PA setting. When you have it on PA it bypasses the CB function. Make sure you have the INTERNAL SPEAKER and the PA SPEAKER plugged into the correct ports in the back. And yes I have the same CB.

How can someone else be heard on the PA (PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT) if it "bypasses" the CB function? If the CB function is bypassed then the only thing that should be heard on the PA should be outgoing transmissions right? Yes, things are plugged in correctly. I've owned and used CB radios before and the way it's working right now is incorrect. Something is wrong with the radio. I'm taking it in next week.

u can get the cobra 19 DXIV. same functionality but dedicated PA. For the time being, i'll just switch to a non active channel and use PA functions.

Ok, it (PA FUNCTION) bypasses the CB function in the cab, meaning the speaker in the CB unit itself and/or the EXT Speaker again in the cab are bypassed sending all communication to the PA Speaker, regardless of CB channel. If I have the CB on PA and do a radio check with everybody it comes across the PA speaker it does not come across the CB channel . Hope that clarifies what I'm trying to get across. And this pertains to the uniden pro520xl.
