use my old JL12 or buy the 8"? JKU

So I have a '12 JKU with the Infinity system and I want more bass. I have a JL12W6V2/box sitting in my garage that I've had in my previous cars for the past 7 years. I also have a JL500/1 amp.

I would have already put it in the Jeep by now if I wasn't worried about it getting stolen out of the back in the summer months where its almost always topless/doorless. I'm not looking to spend an arm and a leg either so I was thinking about just tossing a JL8W3 in the stock Infinity sub enclosure?

powered by my 500/1 amp? I'm guessing the amp is probably way to much power for the 8", but I'd have to find that out.

8W3v3-4 - Car Audio - Subwoofer Drivers - W3v3 - JL Audio

Any thoughts?

I've read some good things about the sundown also and my 500/1 amp should easily be able to push that

My front right speaker is also popping so I need to see if I can get that warranted, if not I guess its time for some components up front and maybe a small amp to power them, if I can get that to work with my stock headunit.

Yeah I think I'll get the SA-8v2 and power it with my 500/1. I was just wondering if anyone else has put it in the stock enclosure.

I can probably sell my 12" JL for a few hundred and pick up the SA-2 so it would only cost me a few bucks to buy the wiring

If you go with the SSA (which would be recommended because of the 500/1's power ratings) be sure to get the dual 4 ohm version. The 500/1 is only stable down to 1.5 ohms, and the dual 2 ohm sub would be a 1 ohm load if wired in parallel. The JL 500/1 is regulated to put out 500 RMS at any impedance, so a 2 ohm load from the dual 4 ohm sub would be ideal.

Thank you. I'll put my old 12" on Craigslist I guess. I'm going to miss her. 7 years of good use. I'd love to keep using it, but there is just no practical way to mount it without the fear of theft.

Hopefully the SA packs a good punch out of the stock enclosure.

I might also run past an install shop and see what kind of "stealth" box they can build for me, and at what cost.

Make your own enclosure. They are free plans on caraudio.com's website. All you need is a drill and a circular saw to build one.

Yeah I can do that, I already have my 12" in an enclosure. I just want it to be "Stealth" for security reasons. I need to do some research and see where and how I would be able to put it.

If not I think the 8" would be my only option, even though you would be able to see it sticking out of the stock enclosure.

anyone put twin SA-8's under the rear seats? maybe even twin 10s?

Trying to keep it cheap though, so I don't think the seat idea would be ideal.

Another member here has the SA-8 and says it doesn't "thump" that well. I'm hoping he posts in his thread or in here. I'd mount my amp below the rear seats to keep it out of sight.

after market amp

The enclosure was his issue.

Yea, I was planning on putting it in the stock enclosure also. I'll have to figure something out. Maybe for now I'll just wire my 12" in and keep it in the back until I can think of something else.

I'm at least going to wire up my 12" for now while I figure out if I want to put the SA8 in the stock enclosure.

All I would need is as 4GA wire kit and a line level converter right?
