Want bare-bones Remote Start for 06 TJ

I want to install a remote start setup in my '06 TJ (auto trans) but every decent kit I see has a ton of features I don't need or don't want. Power door unlock? Power window controls? Trunk release?! I'm seeing key-fobs with 5 or more buttons, and the only electronic feature on my Jeep is the distributor!

Can someone recommend a QUALITY but BASIC remote start kit? No conveniences, no security, no Knight Rider sh**, just a keyfob with a single button that says "START". (Or the closest thing to it). Also advise if I need an add-on key bypass module, etc.

I got something similar to this, on ebay for like $40. Had it for over a year and it works great.

Amazon.com: Audiovox APS-901 Prestige Remote Start: Automotive

keep in mind you may need a bypass mod as well.. most new vehicles (newer than 1998) have a factory theft system on them ..in case of dodge/jeep/chry etc they have a transponder system that, normaly, requires 2 key to program a mod to bypass it.

hopefully you know what your doing bc if not you can cause alot of damage to your vehicle and void any warranty w/ vehicle.

i sell these systems etc for a living (and have for over 14 years). i see ppl all the time that think it's easy and try it them selves. i know locally here no shop will install/warranty a system like this if bought/installed someplace else. if you have any doubts on installation have a good shop install it. it's worth the cost.

just to give you a idea @ my place a remote start w/ bypass etc etc installed on average costs about $260.

as asABSOLUTnie said you can find one un-installed for $40 thats normal uninstalled cost of a remote start, so not like your getting any kind of deal. keep in mind IF you can find a shop to install it most charge $75 / hour (some more/less) if i was to install one of these not bought @ my shop i would charge min of 3-4h labor + parts and after all said and done would cost more than a unit bought/installed by my shop, not only that your unit would carry no warranty @ all.

now if you know what your doing between the remote start & bypass you will probably have about $75-$100. multi meter & test lights will be your friend.. NEVER trust any print out for wire color's make sure to test them all.

Crime Stopper RS-1 basic 1 buttom remote start i sell @ my shop that works real well plus has extended range antenna

Thanks for all the replies, everyone. Great info, all of it. I have a better idea of what this involves (parts/labor). My ASE's are long expired and with my current job I'm short on time; likely I'll find a good auto sound/security shop to do this, otherwise if if I should find myself with a free weekend I'll take it on.

I'm not closing this thread out just yet; if anyone else has more to contribute, by all means, I welcome the replies. Keep 'em coming.

If you are confident in your abilities and have a good understanding of your Jeep's electrical system, this is not a hard project to do as long as you follow the directions and have access to a wiring diagram or the internet.

I did mine myself and it only took my a few hours. Granted, I have a 99TJ, no anti-theft system, no power locks. Im sure you can easily bypass the anti-theft "feature" on your Jeep with some research.

Good luck on the project.

Has anyone put in a remote start on a new jeep? Say like a 2006? Does the 06 have the anti theft that needs to be bypassed?
