The dash speakers are 4x6 plate speakers. The rear are 5.25. Most people stuff 6.5" speakers in the sound bar and choose either a 4x6 or 5.25 for the front. There are a couple companies that make a bolt in bracket for a 5.25" speaker up front. That's the way I went with my rig. The dome light does not run to the stereo. The wire runs down the B pillar by the factory seatbelt and into a circuit triggered by the door. Those wires run under the door up the the trigger that closes when you shut the door. That wire runs to the light switch on the dash and over to the fuse panel. In most cases if you clean the lens and replace the bulb you will have ample amount of light inside the cab.

the door speakers are 4x6 but you can get a "plate" speaker that houses between a 4-5'' and a tweeter. and then you can put 6.5'' in your soundbar. if you unzip your rollbar padding, you can follow the wires down the bar, along the driver's side door sill and to the radio.

ok, so i only have two more questions.

1st: are you sure i can just put in 6 1/2 speakers in the soundpod? they will pop right in without an adapter???

2nd: will any aftermarket speaker connect to the wiring thats already in the jeep? meaning like the connecter from the back of the speaker to the wire that popped out of the old speakers. it was like a little clip that plugged and unplugged the speakers.

1st: yes I'm positive. I run 6.5" infinities in the sound bar. The screws don't line up but the sound bar is metal. New screws work wonders.

2nd: No the aftermarket speakers don't connect up properly. You need the wiring color codes for your year wrangler. You either put new connectors onto the wires or solder the leads to the speakers.

I run 6.5 in my sound pods aswell, and yes i agree with Mr. Clifford new screws do work wonders! The plate up front you can probably order from any off road store. Im not for sure but maybe www.4wd.com or even www.quadratec.com i would try there first. Also to be honest i dont i have ever seen an aftermarket speaker just plug right in. I weh nthe cheap why out and i just soldered my wires together and they work just fine!

If you buy the speakers from www.crutchfiled.com they will come with wiring adapters that will plug into the factory connectors.
If keeping those intact are not important to you, then you can cut the plugs off and crimp on spade lugs which you can get at radio shack or any home store.

driver's side:

Rt front:

whats the difference between a 2-way, 3-way, and 4-way speaker? im planning on putting two 6 1/" speakers in my sound bar in the top of my jeep and two 5 1/4" speakers in the dash. what combo would you recommend? combo meaning all 4-way speakers? or 3-ways up from and 4-ways in the soundbar on the rollbar..

I've been thinking about stuffing 6 x 9 speakers or 8" round in the sound bar what do you guys think? I think they actually might fit tightly

The front speakers are, as has been mentioned, 4x6 but they are not a standard size 4x6. So a replacement 4x6 will not just bolt up, the screw holes are in different locations. It's really better to just convert to a round 5.25" (which will sound better too) using an adapter plate.

The soundbar will accept round 6.5" speakers without modification, so long as the speakers are not the 'S' type that have a deeper/bigger magnet. I wouldn't bother trying to get 6x9 or 8" to fit as the benefit just isn't there.

To get noticeably better sound in a Wrangler is difficult at best but an external amplifier will provide the most improvement for the dollar.

Finally... the speaker's sensitivity rating can be used to a HUGE advantage. That rating tells how much sound volume is produced from a given power and is rated in dB (decibel). Going from a speaker that has an 87 dB sensitivity rating to one with a 90 dB sensitivity rating will sound twice as loud. Each 3 dB is like doubling the power to your ears.

So where a Jeep is concerned, do try to get speakers with the highest sensitivity rating as it will be like possibly doubling the available power from your amplifier. And at the same listening level will allow your amp to work less and also be less distorted.

So the one I'm still trying to figure out is how to get my meat hooks under the dash to even get to the screws?

So my 4 day "vacation" went towards making custom box for my rear that can fit 2 6x9s... I moved the stock bar to the front so now i have nice voice in front and good rumble and voice in the back. I have few pics of it on my cardomain. I did get to see the stock 4x6s in front and i'm wondering cant we fit 5x7s in there instead?

Your YJ presents big problems swapping the front speakers out. It's easy to get to the speakers in a TJ as the OP has though.

If you need help feel free to pm me or i can make a box for you for a small charge.. Mine is a hardtop and i'm not thinking of putting up the soft top ever so i just shuvved the stock bar in front but i gotta tell you its tough to take the top off now since its in the way of the brackets that clip to the winshield. I would say if you dont go topless often to definetly put the stock sound bar in front.. voice is clear as crystal now and i get enough rumble from the 6x9s to shake my mirrors...

Thanks for the offer ... I installed a nice set of Infinity in front and in the sound bar... that plus the new stereo (JVC HD) is given me good rumbles too... I'm planning now to install an amp woofer for better bass.... you idea for the box and moving the sound bar was great... Yeah... go topless is going to be quite difficult.

what kind of JVC is it.. is it those 2" units that need an adapter and make a big gap on top and the bottom or is it a fullsize unit? I'm wondering is the stock unit 3 and 1/4" tall since thats what i see and it looks about right? If i want new cdplayer what should i get that will fit correctly without an adapter? Miko a picture/link of your jvc would be reallly helpful..
I would really recomend the tweeters from quadratec or something that goes in that location http://www.quadratec.com/products/14133_100.htm
Thanks

Sorry TRiple88... I just saw your question... this is the link to my JVC HD I'm really happy with it, include everything, connectors and the adapter to cover the bigger size factory radio... the adapter fit perfectly (TJ 99) and you can even notice the difference
