What speakers sound good with Pioneer head unit?

Hey everyone,
I'm buying a Pioneer head unit soon and want to replace my speakers in my dash and sound bar as well. Should I buy Pioneer speakers? Will they sound best with the Pioneer head unit?

Thanks,
YJman

I had a bad experience with pioneers 4x6 2-way speaker that I had in the dash. The 6x9 5-ways I have in truck boxes mounted on the wheel well though are kickass. The ones in the dash blew on me. But then again I do have a 1000 watt amp powering my speakers. The new JVC speakers in the dash are amazing and really clear too though.

Pioneer TS-A1673R 6-1/2" 3-way car speakers — also fit 6-3/4" openings at Crutchfield.com

I was thinking of these Pioneers for the sound bar. Did the 4x6 Pioneers sound good while they lasted? I was looking at those too but if they're going to blow, then I won't get them. Because I plan to get an amp some day.

I can't really say anything for the 6 1/2 inch speakers because I haven't had an experience with them. I know the 6x9 five ways are crazy though they put out a good amount of bass as well. The 4x6 two ways were good before I got the amp but apparently they couldnt handle the amp. JVC's are excellent though the clarity is amazing.

I've had good results with this (discontinued) set of Pioneer 6.5s in my soundbar.

Hmmm okay so you guys are likin' the larger sized pioneers. Now the things is, I probably won't be able to buy an amp and a sub for a little while. So I need soundbar speakers with some bass in them. I was looking at these:

Crunch CRSS6.5 6-1/2" Car Speakers

And for dash speakers:

Infinity Kappa 462.9cfp 4" x 6" 2-way Kappa Series Plate Speakers

Any thoughts?

Your really not going to get bass out of smaller speakers like those. Smaller speakers are more for the high frequencie notes. Larger speakers is where you will get some bass.

The only way you would ever get some bass out of a 6 1/2 inch speaker and lower is from Bose Brand, i don't know how they do it but that would be the only way...

I don't know about that. If your taking this experience from a car that had a premium bose sound system then I'm pretty sure your forgeting that the premium bose sound systems normally have a small subwoofer in there as well. My dad has a premium bose sound system stock in his 06 maxima only a 400 watt amp and it does sound pretty damn good but the bass comes from his sub.

I really don't think you'll get any noticeable bass out of the 6.5s until you can upgrade to an amp and sub. Regarding the dash speakers, I've read here on the forum that a lot of people opt to squeeze 5.25's in there instead of the factory 4x6s. It requires you fashioning a custom bracket but apparently it works and gives you increased sound from the dash.

You can get adapters from ebay, Crutchfield, etc. We put 5.25's in the dash of the TJ and they are tons better than stock.... Adapters were about $18 from ebay.

Hmm 5.25s in the dash? Sounds like a plan to me but that would require taking the whole dash off right? If not I'll go for 5.25s.

As for the bass, I looked at the SONY Xplode line and they have subs and amps for pretty cheap. Would this be something to look at or should I buy better quality? And should I wire all the speakers and the sub to one amp? Or do I need 2 separate amps?

P.S.-I'm not really on the up with the electrical stuff if you couldn't tell lol

Take the sub out and i'm sure there would still be good bass, my sister's Mazda 6 has Bose speakers with no sub and it bumps pretty good. Not as good as with a sub of course, but it still hit's good enough to notice!

Nope. Just get a set of brackets and install them through the removable pieces that cover the front speakers. It's pretty easy.

I'm not entirely sure it's that easy on a YJ... Not sure it isn't either tho'. TJ's are easy.

Pioneer makes a good head unit but there speakers suck, get Rockford Fosgate or JL Audio for good sounding & reliable and loud speakers.

Sherpa, I see you have a TJ lol. YJ's don't have pieces that come off to replace the speakers. It's a solid steel panel all the way across behind the dash board lol. As InfernoGirl said, it probably is not as easy.

And okay Jeepjones, I will definately take a look at them. I've seen them before and have always wondered if they were a good brand or not.

I'm also going to check out some bose

I wouldn't pee in the wind for anything Rockford or JL makes....pioneer is the largest speaker manufacturer in the world. They make at least 4 levels of speakers for every price range. I have been a dealer for over 13 years and their quality across the board and warranty are second to none. Are there better speakers out there?? Of course, but your gonna pay alot more for them and a 4x6 isn't really worth it.

If you are just a pioneer dealer, sorry about your luck...

I used to hate on Pioneer like crazy when I worked for Circuit City and sold them. Then we got in some of the yellow coned kevlar 6x9's. WOW! It's night and day. For those of you that have no pioneer speaker experience besides the garbage bottom end models that you see in your local stores you really need to seek out some of these high end models! They call them the D series now.

Okay so Pioneer IS a good speakers as long as you buy high end which I was planning on doing. How's Polk Audio?

For dash speakers, should I stick with 4x6s in my YJ? Or should I move down to 4 inch? Or up to 5x7 if I can fit it?

Looking at these for dash:

Ya Pioneer High end will sound good for sure, like anything you pay lots of $ for, but when u compare like a rockford fosgate low end speaker price vs. pioneer low end, rockford wins every time. Not a fan of pioneers, but if you pay good enough money u will get a quality speaker. Just don't get that wal-mart junk or really any car electronics they sell...

rockford makes cheap speakers? all I have seen is way overpriced for underperformed.

4x6 will be fine, then get a sound bar and a single sub and you will be good shape

This here...Amazon.com: Rockford Fosgate Punch P1462 4 x 6-Inches Full Range Coaxial Speakers: Electronics is better than this... Here Amazon.com: Pair of Brand New Pioneer Tsa4672r 4x6" 300 Watt Total Peak Output 3 Way Car Audio Speakers: Electronics: Reviews, Prices & more
Rockford doesn't make any cheaper speakers than that because they don't make the 2 range speaker crap like pioneer does, rockfords are full range speakers and the difference is very noticeable...

Yanno I'm not gonna engage in arguing with you over this...your a rockford fan and that's fine. I deal with people as such on a day to day basis and I'm not gonna do it on here too. The only thing I can offer the original poster is my experience as a dealer, installer, and audiophile versus the words of a consumer who likes a particular brand. The pioneer speakers will last a very long time, sound good with headunit power, and the dealer offers over the counter exchange in one should quit working. Everyones ears different and it takes listening to different ones to know what you like. If money wasn't an object, I'd be looking at Focal, Image Dynamics, or Diamond.

I used the Polk audio speakers as well, but with a Sony head unit. No matter how I adjust the system it always has massive highs and no lows. Better than it was when I bought it, but not as good as any normal car. But then again, it's not a normal car and if I wanted a sound studio I should have bought a Mercedes.
