i want to install the speaker somewhere under the dash at the driver side.

whats about installing a switch with that i can choose if the right stock speaker in the dash gets a signalfrom the stock radio or the CB radio?

perhaps i´ll find a place for the stock front speaker under the dash. i replaced it with some better sony speakers some months ago.

i think that installing the cb radio behind the shifter is a good idea. my cb radio is only 1.5" high. i hope that it will fit there without cutting the dash.

Where you keep the actual CB radio is all preference. AM radio waves if i'm not mistaken travel horizontal like FM. You may be able to wire antenna in roll-bar an hide it. Rather than the Outback Kangaroo Hunter Look

Nicolas eric cut the dash man. It will only need a little but of trimming.

now..

Behind the arm rest can work too if your radio is not so wide. I have a large Cobra set so I'm planning to mount it under the dash on the passenger side.

You can mount the antenna horizontally but you will dramatically reduce effective range, your signal is polarized in relation to your antenna, if it's vertical it will be received best by another vertical antenna, if it's horizontal, it will be received best by a horizontal antenna.
Then there's skip but that's for later...

There is also a bracket, that bolts up behind your tail light. You can get it for either side. Than just put on a little steely wip, or 3'-4' fiberglass antenna, which ever you prefer. I just mounted a short steely on there, so it would not break, if coming into contact with a branch, or something.

Wink mine

loosen up the hard top, put a piece of wood across the roll bars and secure, then mount the radio to the wood.

Ok, MOA never replied where he got that bracket that mounts to the driver's side of the dash. Does anyone know where to get a bracket like that? I'm kicking around the idea of mounting a CB in that spot and that bracket would be ideal.

I know you got your answer in the TJ forum...but in case someone comes across this thread while searching, I'll post the answer here too.

MP - Jeep CB Mount Bracket Mini CB TJ [MP 100002055-00] - $25.95 : Jeep Outfitter

I'm totally going to get one of those btw...much cleaner than most installs and doesn't look like it'd be as big of a pain running the wires compared to the overhead mounts.

Yeah, I like where it positions the CB. I'll post some pics of it when I get it all installed. I think I'll be happy with it.

Saw this when I Googled “Overhead CB mount for Jeep” and thought it was workable.

I just installed mine yesterday and put mine where the little tray is on the right side directly in front of the shifter. I cut out the back lip of the tray and about 2/3 of the bottom of the tray so the CB would sit a little further down under the dash. Clean looking and out of the way.

I put a overhead console in my jeep and I love it. But I wouldn't recommend it if you are tall. I am 5' 7" so it works for me. And if installing it in a YJ with a sound bar you will have to put sound pods in or fab the sound bar so that there is no middle to it.

94 yj

Ok how about a mount for a cb in a 94 YJ. top of dash is too small, under the dash i have ocasional leaks from my windshield which i will have to fix(that is why my stereo is not working now) i thought about a center console box, nothing too big just enough for the cb and camera, glasses or whatever and removable. the cb will probably only be used on Jeep runs anyway

I mounted mine just to the right of the shifter next to the ashtray...fits good for now...id show you a pic but my cb is at the shop getting a new Calibration Meter put in...but I feel your pain with TJ's they have so much room to play and us YJ guys have to get creative with how we put things. I'm actually waiting for temps to get about 10 degrees warmer and everything is coming out and getting placed back in...and i'm thinking of a Console too so if you do one i would like to see how you did yours...

Another place you can mount it is to the front of your console. That is where I had mine mounted on my YJ.

Hi All, I am new one here and very glad to join such a great jeepers community!
After considering a several possible location to mount my CB radio and checking what other folks done I came up with this set up. It is do not require any drilling, the wiring s almost invisible, no cords and cables hanging from the top. I hope it will help someone to install CB radio in a TJ.
