That is (in most cases) an Export radio. It does not have a single button to flip you into regular cb mode. you have to know the freq. of the channel you want to talk on. As an example if you wanted to talk on channel 19 you would set the display to read 27.185.

CHANNEL FREQUENCY
1........ 26.965
2........ 26.975
3........ 26.985
4........ 27.005
5........ 27.015
6........ 27.025
7........ 27.035
8........ 27.055
9........ 27.065
10....... 27.075
11....... 27.085
12....... 27.105
13....... 27.115
14....... 27.125
15....... 27.135
16....... 27.155
17....... 27.165
18....... 27.175
19....... 27.185
20....... 27.205
21....... 27.215
22....... 27.225
23....... 27.255
24....... 27.235
25....... 27.245
26....... 27.265
27....... 27.275
28....... 27.285
29....... 27.295
30....... 27.305
31....... 27.315
32....... 27.325
33....... 27.335
34....... 27.345
35....... 27.355
36....... 27.365
37....... 27.375
38....... 27.385
39....... 27.395
40....... 27.405

Hope that helps a little

Just so you know, that radio is strictly verboten and illegal to use on the CB band here in the US. It's also illegal to use on the adjoining 10 ham band unless you have the right kind of amateur radio license.

illegal to use the CB bands, perhaps... will he get caught for it? never.

illegal to use on the 10 meter HAM bands, YES! ... will he get caught for it? maybe, depends on if anyone around you is using the same freqs and is irritated by it. they can kinda track you down and figure out where you live, and then report you to the FCC.... heavy fines will follow.

Good news is if you dont have a HAM license, you can still listen on those 10 meter bands. just dont be tempted to key up!

Lots of people get caught for it and the fines are upwards of 10 grand.

what im saying is that there is no way he is going to get caught using an export radio as a cb. unless he is running a ton of power, how would anyone know?

Anyone who sees it or hears it. can you not tell when somebody is using a modified radio?
Watch the FCC site, they list the people they bust. It's usually somebody that works hard at pissing people off but they do get caught.
I don't care if autogyver uses an export radio on the CB bands, I think the power limitations suck myself, but he needs to know that there are consequences to breaking the law so he can make an informed decision about doing so.

Is there some reason you feel the need for extremes?

The odds are you won't get caught if you don't go around abusing it. Saying you can't or won't get caught is foolish.

BTW, I'm a licensed ham and have been into CB since I was a kid. I use CB every day as a truck driver.

fine. i shouldnt say you will NEVER get caught, but i will say that as long as youre not bleeding all over everything, not running a ton of power, and not being a dickhead on the radio, the chances of you getting caught for using an export radio that has been modified to use on the cb band are EXTREMELY slim.

agreed?

The odds of actually getting caught are minimal but that still doesn't make it right to use radios that are strictly illegal under US FCC laws.

It's no worse then running E-code headlights or light dots with no side reflector. Yeah, all are technically illegal most don't care and VERY few ever get caught.
I have run Instate 80 enough to know there are more high power radios running that road then there are legal ones, at least in our area. Even the FCC doesn't care that much or they would do more about it.

It doesn't matter whether the FCC would do anything or not, recommending someone use an illegally modified radio is poor conduct and just as wrong.

Are you just as passionate about making sure everyone has a high mounted third brake light? Because one is no worse then the other.

So Dhamer ate his victims, you should too? It doesn't matter if everyone is doing it or if one is no worse than the other, nothing justifies teaching a practice that is against the law. And it has nothing to do with passion for something. If someone ask me about doing an illegal radio mod I just tell them it's illegal but do what they want, I don't make an issue if someones brake light is too low unless they ask.

and the same goes for you when someone else gives their opinion or feedback on something asked. it is illegal, like it or not you are breaking the law. maybe you won't get caught but there is always a chance. I have never shown anyone how to mod their cb when asked, but do know how. personally I don't feel the need to have a high powered CB cause usually I'm only talking to people less than a mile away. good luck to you on that not getting caught thing, word is that the FCC is going to be cracking down on CB and HAM laws here soon, so just remember don't be pissed at them when you get the fine or jail time.

You seem to be the only one getting excited by this issue, the rest of us have simply offered our opinions in what looks to me like a very calm manner.
Relax brother, it's just the interwebs

Well I have been away for a while now and I will NOT be using this radio if it causes such a fuss. But in the mountains where I am at a CB is useless anyway, cellphones don't even work much. So just cam down it won't be used. By the way thanks for all the info....good or bad

No worries, we're way beyond this 6 month old issue and we weren't all that excited to begin with.
