wireless entry with raspberry pi

Has anyone tried this yet? I want to add a raspberry pi to handle wireless ignition and a lot of other things. My analog to digital converter is going to be here this week. Need to decide on an NFC system, have I lost anyone?

Ooooooooooo, I am intrigued. I have toyed with the idea of buying a Rasberry Pi for awhile now. I think when I get out of this desert of Afghanistan, I may purchase one. In a past life I was an AMX programmer, so I enjoy writing code to control things and I am a fan of RFID. What are your ideas? Are you trying to actuate by proximity or by a button press? I am assuming since you metioned NFC, you are working on a proximity solution. Totally interested in watching this develop.

I'll be watching also. I've messed with arduino. Built a combo lock for my garage. I haven't had the time to put one in the jeep. Best of luck!

Btw, any of you guys watch Ben Heck?

No, but I do spend quite a bit of time on hackaday.com. I also "window shop" on adafruit.com. When I had my '72 Bug as a daily driver, I was going to try an arduino to accomplish some neat tricks, but I never seemed to find the time. My 15yo son is going to put the Bug back together as his car when he gets his DL, so maybe then we can try some neat tricks.

I might have to look into this. I have 3 of them for various things right now. One is my python dev server, another i use as a DNS router/filter for my kids computer. I've been toying with the idea of using the third as a remote garage door opener (using the web I'd be able to open/close, check status of door). My wife has a bad tendency to leave the door open. I might look into this for that third one though.

actually, the first step is going to be installing an arduino system using the cruise control buttons to work out the kinks with the solenoids and power supply. do you mind sharing your combination lock sketch? My OBDII connector is in the mail and will be here in two weeks so why not just but both a Pi and an arduino in the system? I never lock my doors so both systems would be great to have installed.

I wouldn't mind a system to let me turn on the kc lights from my phone (maybe radio and other things once I add them). I've got buddies that can build the iPhone app for me, and I can build any backend web pieces (though I'm expecting Bluetooth would be the way to go), I just don't know what's needed in the cab. Any input?

I seen something like what you're talking about with a wired arduino addon board (shield) and a custom made website app. I don't know if there's a wireless way to do it with the arduino, maybe the raspberry pi.

Arduinos have a LOT of shields for them. From GPS shields to SIM card shields that let the arduino connect to a cell phone network. I'd personally ditch the Pi and just use arduinos here, simpler to use with more I/Os. I'd only consider a Pi if I was doing some kind of in dash computer.
