wondering about Jeep audio

well ive always had jsut a regular coupe car with subs in the trunk but ive finally decided to get a jeep and i had a question about the audio.

1. Is it complicated/ expensive to get lets say 2 12's installed into the Jeep and still be able to go off roading and not damage the speakers?

ive been wanting to get a 2009 and i love the audio systems in my vehicle but i also want to be able to go off roading and not have to miss my beats.

thanks

some people do it, but as long as it's secured firmly then they won't get damaged. One thing to remember though is if you're wheeling with the top down they will most likely collect so dirt or mud. Also, Jeeps are the easiest thing to break into and someone could easily rip you off if they know you have subs.

if you don't car about the amount of trunk space than go with 2 subs, i always suggest getting a really nice 10" or 12" sub so that you have some room in the back. i have a bestop extenda-trunk in my tj and it keeps people out.

its very easy to wire up a tj. and a headunit install is also very easy to do.

are you running a factory headunit or aftermarket?

Just set your subs up so they're downfiring and unless you hose your Jeep out regularly, you shouldn't have any problems...I would also make sure to use undercoating on your box to help prevent water damage when you get a surprise shower with the top down.

Also...I would bolt your box down through the tub (use brackets and utilize some existing bolts to save yourself from drilling holes all over the tub) to help deter thieves. Not sure how I'd mount the amp...but you'll want to figure out a way to keep it protected from any sudden showers and keep it theft-resistant. I personally refuse to put anything decent in my Jeep as far as subs go. I've got a full Elemental Designs system from my old truck...and it's sitting in my shed until I sell it. I know it'll vanish in a heartbeat if I put it in my Jeep.

i got a decent custom box made that fits wedged behind the backseat, so you can't take it out without opening the tailgate. i have the amps mounted on one side with a downward facing 12" i think sub (it's been a while) on the other. they're shielded from the elements, but i have no trunk space.. i'll take pics when i get back home from class and post them up so you can get an idea

12" seems awful tight for that space behind the rear seat that they try to call a trunk...lol

I was thinking it was only 11" deep (at least on the TJ)...ah heck, I ain't doing anything...I'll go measure the space. haha

Whoops...got caught up talking to my roommate and forgot to come back and post my measurements. Bout 12" deep at the bottom (and that may be more like 11" with the door closed), 35-36" wide and 8" deep up top...no idea on the height since my top is on and I didn't feel like popping open the back window to get a flush measurement.
